The one on the left is definitely a reproduction. The black cord and frayed edges of the sling give it away.
That said, the one on the right looks a bit off color-wise, but that's probably just the lighting (both the red and the brown seem too bright).

Yup, I concur with thezaxfactor. The left one is definitely a repro. Pumyra's Sling, Tygra's Whip and Cheetara's staff are the most common repros out there.

I agree with the others (surprise).
Those slings are mighty hard to come by. I ended up making one for my own Pumyra until I can grab one at a decent price.

Wow, thats awesome. It appears most did not take such good care of their toys judging by the absence the majority of the time.

Good call thezaxfactor, they are both repos, the one on the left came with the pumyra I've just purchased from ebay. I knew as soon as I saw the pics on ebay that the sling shot was au repo, probably a amateur job but half decent non the least.
I messages the seller asking him if the weapon was a repo because I didn't state in the sellers description weather it was a original or not, he told me that he got the figure from his brother who told him it was the original but didn't know if his brother was lying to him or not ???
So I decided to go with my instincts and look for a real one on ebay.....couldn't find one, unless I was willing to by a MOC pumyra and remove her from her card because I collect NM complete loose, I didn't want to do this ( thinking about buying a MOC stinger and opening it so I have him loose with all 6 wings) but I'll save that for another post.:)
So the one on the right is a repo, found it on ebay and I believe it is very close to the original...had a few of you guys second guessing yourself haha.
Hope to get a original soon and also a original bengali hammer as one of the variants from moons of plun-darr was a repo.

The one on the right is a very good repro. Aside from the chord looking lighter there doesn't seem to be much difference to the original. Although I should point out it isn't in front of me and I ma going from memory.

I really looked after my Thundercats. Although in the case of Pumyra I didn't get her until the summer of 96.

22-back from 1985??
Hi everyone,
I always thought the 8-back series were from 1985, 14-back 1986 and the 22-back from 1987...
I came across this grading picture from a Lion-o
It says; 22-back from 1985.
Can someone tell me why this is, or what could be the reason?
Am I missing something?
Cheers!

Possibly a mistake by the graders?

I am inclined to agree with "Booshman". It seems like the graders might have made a mistake labeling it as "22 back".
The reason I say this is because the "Rainbow Toys" logo that is visible at the bottom of the card was their old logo and mostly appeared on the Series 1 (1985) and (I think) some Series 2 (1986) toy packaging. The Series 3 (1987 - 22back) packaging mostly had the new Rainbow Toys logo. This one:

I havent had any stuff graded, but I have seen some weird errors and judgement calls go around. Those guys who rate and grade these toys are no experts. I remember a UKG ThundeCats figure labled as a RainbowToys caus the grader thouhgt the LJN logo (which has a rainbow, kinda?) was the RT logo. Stuff like that happens.

Aaaaah thanks all for the replies, makes somes sense...
I just zoomed in on the back and it says '1985'...
Could it be a 14-back (printed in 1985) instead of a 22-back?
EDIT: You will find the '1985' at the bottom, small white text, third line.

Well, it's clearly a 22-back cause there are 22 figures on it. I think the 1985 date is from the Thunder Warrior offering part of the print (which they obviously didnt update throughout the years), not the top half. That would explain the old Rainbow Toys Logo which, as WilyCub stated, usually arent seen on 22 backs.
I have some Dutch/Benelux releases MOC and those say 1989, the year they were printed/released.
Since the only 1985 released Lion-O is the 8-back (right??), should versions like this be labled differenly? What do you guys think?

I guess you are right; it's clearly a 22-back.

It looks like this was probably printed in 87 or 88 to me. The Thunder-Warrior offer states in small print that the closing date is December 31st 1988. I dont remember when they came out with the Thunder-Warrior, but that print should give a clue to the time frame.

Is this Bolo Whip original?
Hi, as a first time poster I'm hijacking this thread :-)
I just got these two in from a mail exchange trade off. Tygra's legs was broken and has been glued back on.
I'm also suspecting that the Bolo Whip and has at least the handle replaced and the string shortened?
The figures smell like paint and some of the paint application seems weirdly patched. I've seen this often with especially MOTU when people have tried to "Touch up" figures.
ThunderCats were never originally released in Denmark so I do not know how they are 'Supposed' to look.
Any thoughts?
Cheers, Philip

The Tygra whip looks 100% legit to me. A lot of the resculpted (old) Tygra's that were released in main-land Europe have the short whip. Cant spot anything strange other then that the Sword looks a little too good. Maybe the silver on the Sword was touched-up?

I don't know. Maybe they are good (except for the leg of course).
The sword was definitely touched up by brush over the airbrush but it might have been on the production. It's definitely been masked off and airbrushed first. I've noticed that a lot of the ThunderCats production is quite sloppy.
The joints are tight and snappy and the figures are generally in good condition. Most of the plastic has that dusty quality as when they haven't been rubbed or worn. I don't think they've been played with a lot. It's just that weird smell that's still bothering me.
Also bothering me is that all pictures i find of the Whip the handle seems to be either sculpted or warped. Maybe that's from the string knot being dragged through the pipe?
Did anyone ever do comparison photos of the Whip's?

I believe there were two versions of Tygra's whip made and released. The sculpted handle was mostly included with the Young Tygra figure and some Old Tygra figures as well. A lot of the Old Tygra's released in the UK and those by Rainbow Toys had the simple straight plastic tube-like handle with the string tied in a knot at the bottom (like the one in your picture). :)
