Hi folks,

It seems like a rite-of-passage for a new Moderating forum to have a discussion about Queen Lynxana, LOL! ;)

Seems once again she got drunk last night and started clogging up the Bandai Classics Lion-O thread with some posts that come off as pretty drunk and skirting the edges of what is and isn't appropriate - MannyF deleted one of her posts and I've deleted another.

Even though in a bizarre way I actually do quite like her (or at least, I feel sorry for her, as I think her life is pretty screwed-up), nevertheless I'm not a fan of the way she behaves on the forums and the next time there's a big flare I'm quite happy to ban her outright.

In the meantime, can I just use this opportunity to flag up to all the Mods that she's a poster to keep an eye on, and as far as I'm concerned please feel free to take any action (including punitive action) that you feel is fair and appropriate when dealing with her posts. :)

Take care... :)

With no offence to her personally, she behaves like a bit of a goon here. I think she's an intelligent woman but the absolute drivel she posts on here sometimes and that strange way of posting is both offputting and annoying. I'd leave it for now, and if she does it again, give her a week ban (if that hasn't already happened). I like her, in a weird way, because she does have points to her discussion. However, the drivel... argh.. my head...

Chris,

Oh boy I hadn't seen those posts (I just saw the one about the formspring RP) but it doesn't surprise me. As someone who has befriended her since her arrival in fandom, I've seen her at her worst and yeah it usually means she'll crash and burn on a forum. I've had to mod her on my forum which is saying something because I pretty much have an almost-anything-goes atmosphere there :o

Since you guys are shooting for more family friendly space here, I don't blame you for watching her and keeping an eye out. Indeed, she does do most of her worst work late at night eastern time, while drunk. So whoever in our mod team can be active then, they'll probably catch her quickest.

Like you Chris, I do find her likable particularly when sober. And it's sad for me to see that she's fallen off the wagon again. She does have myriad of problems and issues but I agree that if banning her is what's needed regarding what's best for these forums so be it. Moderating is kind of like being a manager at a workplace - sometimes it's "just business" and the personal has to be separated from what must be done.

Hopefully, she'll wise up. I always hope anyway!!

Chris here...

Angie, as always, your thoughts and comments mirror my own - my heart goes out to her because I can tell she has a massive amount of personal problems, and when she's sober I actually get on with her really well. But unfortunately the bottle brings out the worst side of her! :(

I'll keep an eye out and am really grateful to all you guys for keeping an eye out too - I actually don't want to outright ban her but there are only so many flames we can keep putting out before her drunk posts start to become an issue - like you say, Angie, we are going for a slightly more "family-friendly" tone over here. Anyway, just thought I'd flag this up for you guys! :)

Take care... :)

Yeah, it sucks that she puts us in such an awkward position but that's the prob - she's not thinking when she's that drunk.

I know at EOT, they tried temp banning her and ended up having to perma-ban her but part of that issue was some personal animosity between her and some board members there. The mods were getting a lot of complaints about her from users besides.

I'm torn about temp or perma banning her myself. Over here I don't think she has any personal ax to grind, it's just stupidity pouring out of a bottle. But I also think that if it's becoming too often, and/or we start getting complaints from users, then a perma-ban has to be considered. I guess we will have to see how it goes. Sometimes she gets so embarrassed in the sober light of day she'll knock it off for a long time. I'm hoping it's the case here for everyone's sake.

Since the subject is brought up I also have a protocol question to ask. It's policy on some boards to issue warnings to users before 'drastic' measures like bans happen (not to spammers or people who troll from day one, but more like regular users who have issues like our lynx friend here). Is there any such thing here, or is it all at mod discretion how to proceed? Just curious. Thanks!

I too find her to be a great person to chat with over the forums, but I have not encountered any of her dark side moments yet. I'll keep an eye out whenever I can since I am EST time too. But if you see she is in one of these states, PM me or post in here so I can try to keep a closer eye on the board.

I think it needs to be a 3 strikes and your out kinda rule. She's had strike one already I believe.... borderline strike two. We have always wanted the forums to have the widest appeal and when the cartoon starts to air, it's a given young children will visit this site.

Queen Lynxana needs to sort herself out, otherwise she's gonna have to go! ;)

I respect and consider friends all the members of this forum. Queen Lynxana is an old member here with a reputation. I really don't want to ban anyone but for Spammers, however, i see what you are saying. I'll let you know too if i detect any miscontanduct.:(

Best,

Well, judging by her recent facebook posts she's in the shame cycle rather than an angry or mischievous one so if I know anything about her patterns of behavior I would say she's done making drunken waves here for now and probably will only lurk for a time (I've seen her logged in here but to my knowledge she's not posted anything new since that night). I just hope she gets the help she needs, for her own sake.

Chris here...

Just had to go through and clean up some more drunken crap from Queen Lynxana, nothing too severe this time thank God, but just drunken nonsense. I'm getting fed up of having to do this (maybe I've got out of bed the wrong side), and so have posted this so everyone can see it:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/showthread.php?p=36466&posted=1#post36466

However much I may like her when she's sober (I'm even friends with her on Facebook), if it happens one more time I'm going to ban her. If she can't get her drinking under control she needs to stop posting ******** all over the Internet.

Take care... :)
Merged Post:
UPDATE:

Had an abusive PM from QL because she claims she wasn't drunk - to be perfectly blunt I don't believe her (I know from FB yesterday that she went out and bought a load of liquor, and there's a pattern to her posting that screams at me that she's drunk), but have apologised to her if I did make an assumption. However, I have also told her that if I have made an assumption, it's because of the countless times she's posted on this forum and others (and Facebook) when she's been drinking, and that frankly it's unacceptable.

I've basically told her that she's been walking a fine line with her behaviour on these forums for a long time and that I've stuck up for her numerous times, but that the next time there's a problem the issue is likely to be out of my hands.

I've also un-friended her on Facebook because quite frankly, however good a person she may be deep down, she has to start doing something to help herself. It also avoids an awkward situation if one of us has to ban her.

Even though the PM she sent me was pretty nasty, I haven't given her an infraction because if I have indeed misjudged her then she's entitled to have a go back! ;) I'd appreciate it if you guys didn't either. But (as I've said many times before), the next time her toe goes over the line, she really is out of here.

EDIT: And just to add (can you tell this has ****ed me off, LOL) that one of the comments of hers that I deleted was in response to forum member Bengali who posted that he really liked the Berserkers, to which she responded "If I ever hear you say that again, I'll bleach out all your stripes", with no smiley or anything to indicate she was joking. Obviously this is how people have sensible and interesting discussions!! *rolls eyes"

Take care... :)

Just my point of view on this (current) issue...

Chris, you did not name names, she voluntarily made it known your public service announcement (PSA) was about her. She could have just sent you a PM making her case that she was not drunk and let the PSA remain an anonymous user issue. So any ensuing firestorm isn't your fault.

You took the moral high-road, she took the moral middle-ground (being as generous as I can here).

Thanks - you make a good point in that I deliberately didn't name names.

In reality I should have sent her a PM, however it struck a raw nerve - the first thing I do every morning when I log on to these forums is see what new posts Queen Lynxana has made overnight, because I know how volatile she is when she's been drinking, and when I woke up this morning to see she'd been posting nonsense in one thread and making that comment to Bengali in another, I just thought "Urgh, not this AGAIN!!"

However, I do feel as though I'm under a lot of pressure, stress and strain right now, and so even though I don't consider I've made a massive error here, I know these things can affect your judgement and so I'm starting to wonder whether I should take more of a back seat on the Modding side until I can get a bit of pressure release, otherwise the next time someone like Queen Lynxana gets under my skin, I may make a mistake! :(

Take care... :)

I've got to admit this talking in 'the third person' does grate on your nerves....... Neil thinks talking like this grates on his nerves......Neil would like to permanantly ban Queen Lynxana......Neil has his finger on the big red ban button and Neil's finger is itching to press it.....;)

Seriously though she does go off topic and starts getting silly with her posts. I think you should have cleaned her post up and then told her to wise up via pm. I guess it's a learning curve :) I've had a lot of experience with trouble makers in the flesh, so dealing with them online is a piece of p iss for me :)

However if Queen Lynxana was abusive in her pm, then I'm afraid insulting staff I will not tolerate. I think that should be her 2nd official strike. One more major incident and I'd like to see her banned indefinately.

In retrospect I agree, although I don't have a deep-seated regret - I have spoken to her on Facebook before and indicated to her that I don't like her drinking and then coming on the TCL forums, when I saw the rubbish she was posting (and I still stand by my opinion that she had been drinking), I figured clearly just conveying that to her wasn't enough! ;)

Ironically, I actually wasn't so bothered by the nonsense she posted in that thread as the comment she made to Bengali in the Berserkers thread - for some reason the board software isn't showing that I made an edit to that, I promise that I did though! :)

It was a pretty ugly PM but I'd really prefer that didn't count as a strike - like I say, if I did misjudge her then she's entitled to have a go back. I know in the past when Val Staples and I have spoken via PM on He-Man.Org I've gotten really stroppy with him and he's never given me an infraction or anything of that nature for doing so. :)

However, I do agree with you about one more major incident and she's out of here, simply because I think there have been more than enough already:

- She posted up a photo of herself giving some of the TCL staff and any members who disagreed with her "the finger" (earned herself an infraction) over one of Nick's interview threads

- She made "jokey" threatening comments about making physical violence towards Mark (over the movie script), got a 2-week temp ban

- She made derogatory comments about a member's Mighty Muggs customs ("WTF is this sh*t?") and got an infraction

- In the past few weeks I've had to clean up after her making drunk comments on the forums (the whole reason this thread came into existence)

...So whilst I'd prefer my interactions with her via PM not to count towards her "two strikes", I think it would be fair to say there are "two strikes" in that lot up there! ;)

Take care... :)

Yep, think those would be strike 1 and 2. Anything on the same level as those and it's au revoir

Chris, I'm sorry you're having to put up with so much, then this on top.

Frankly, I suspect she was drunk too. And even if not, the point is her posts were inappropriate for this forum and you as an admin, deserve some respect though she may argue the action against her.

I find the idea that she got ugly with you appalling. Anyone that has interacted with you at all should know you don't have a malicious bone in your body, so why take it personal? You're one of the sweetest folks I know, and the fact that she treated you so poorly makes me sad.

At any rate, this wouldn't be the first forum queenie has been banned from so it wouldn't surprise me. I say, do what you guys have to do to keep your forum humming along the way you like it. She's been warned several times. She can either shape up or get kicked out. Ball's in her court.

Thanks Angie - a lot of the pressure I'm under is my own stupid fault, somebody approaches me with a project and I think "Ooh, that sounds good!" and forget about practical things like hours in a day, LOL! ;) I also keep falling a week behind every time I get sick, which as you know has been quite regularly. :(

Well, as to whether she was drunk, to me she just has a style of posting that indicates to me whether or not she's had anything to drink. I find this *queen lynxana drowns her dog in a bucket of water* style of writing normally happens at a certain time of night, and it's at said certain time of night that she hits the bottle...and as I say, she'd posted on Facebook yesterday about buying liquor, she ain't doing that to sit and stare at it! ;)

That's sweet of you to say. In fairness, her beef is that I called her out on being drunk when she says she wasn't - which if that's true, she's got a legitimate gripe with me because I made a false assumption. As I said to her, what she needs to ask herself is why I made that assumption! ;)

Ironically, she also got upset because she said I was the one TCL team member she wouldn't have expected to have hauled her over the coals - she mentioned me in this respect in comparison to Mark (Grizzlor) and the two Manny's in particular! ;)

Although you say I'm sweet, I do have a hard streak when somebody tries my patience - I care about people but don't suffer fools, and when I saw QL posting rubbish again, after I've mentioned to her in a tactful way about posting on these forums when "under the influence", my patience snapped! I do also have a very hot temper which at times costs me - for example, my last relationship ended because I lost my temper with my girlfriend, she badly let me down over something but rather than wait to cool off I lost my temper and fired off an angry text to her! :(

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Angie - believe me, contrary to what I imagine Queen Lynxana thinks right now, I don't take any satisfaction from taking a stand on the forums, I'm a non-confrontational person and in fact all of this today has made me feel quite ill. This aspect of my personality wars with my inability to suffer fools, LOL! ;)

Take care... :)

Chris, I can relate very well to much of what you've said. Of course you are human, but please don't be too hard on yourself. And shame on her for trying to make a plea to your friendship as some kind of shield against her antics - that's so uncool. If I ever got out of line here, I'd hope one of you would set me straight...it's what good friends should do.
As difficult as it may be, try not to let it get to you. You're doing what you're supposed to do to keep the forums running smooth for all users and as someone who has witnessed queenie run amok it's best to nip it in the bud before she gets to the point where she feels she "deserves" it.

heh what's ironic is she knows she could get away with half this stuff at my forum but I guess drunk posting to yourself isn't near as fun as with an audience :rolleyes:

Hmm, let's assume you are wrong and she wasn't drunk (which again I doubt...when she's off the wagon and has liquor in the house + is up late I can all but guarantee you she's hitting the sauce)...I counter with - and this is what you're posting now SOBER? Either way I don't think it's such a shining endorsement of her behavior.

Take care, Chris. You have my full support. Hope you feel better soon!

I think I've mentioned that QL has never been on my good side -- I honestly think we've been waay to easy on her...but again, I might just be bias because I never liked her behavior towards others on the forums.

I also agree with Neil that the whole "third person" thing is annoying.

But I digress. :)

Hope you're okay Chris -- don't let her get under your skin...just shows she is getting her way.
