Tokyonever shed some light on the 8-back issue, here is his message i got yesterday, i'll fix my paragraph concerning Cosmocats

''Hi, sorry for the delay, I was waiting the Keyzeryom's answer.

So, I did a mistake on the 8_back cards...
all the cards Cosmocats with black background behind the figures owned by Keyzeryom (and also pictured in the Thread of this forum) are 8_backs:

Cheetara / wylikit
snowman
monkian
vultureman
jackalman
tuska warrior

On my side, I remember clearely to have got some of my figures when I was child with characters from the wave 2 also pictured on the back of their cards (by example, when I discovered Hachiman and Shiner pictured for the first time, I seen them at the begining on a backcard for sure, they were very hard to find there on the french market and I found the figures on sale later than others, I have a good memory of that)

I think 2 french cards versions were existing:
1rst edition of all charcaters coming on 8_back cards and later a 2nd edition on ?-back cards with the figures of the 2nd wave.
But the strange thing is because all the figures moc found the last years are visibly all on 8_back cards...(I am referencing at the Keyzeryom's ones, cause he bought all the ones that I seen on sale here and there lol)

Maybe an other thing was possible: We got some characters in France on "European" packages with a french sticker "Cosmocats" stuck on the Thundercats titles...because if you check the French packaging of the Mumm-Ra's Tomb, it was the case...maybe some charcaters were also distribued like that...I can't confirm.

About Companions on french cards, all are the same cards for sure.
For the Berserkers, the cards are all 4-back.

For Lion-O and Mum-Ra, they are 8_back too and Keyzeryom never seen them sold with Snarf or Ma-Mutt, like me.
Same thing about Cheetara and Tygra packaged on cards with WilyKit and Kat, we have never seen Cheetera and Tygra sold alone on french cards and when I was child, I also got each one with Kit and Kat.

Johnny.''

Thundercats were received with open arms in France during the 80s and made a big splash as well as in other countries across the world. However, the French Toyline featured two main differences. First of all, ‘Orli Jouet’ the French distributor, changed most of the protagonists names along with the Thundercats logo to a more ’’Frenchies’’ wiring sound form.Instead of the regular ‘’Thundercats’’, the ‘’Cosmocats’’ logo was printed on top of the packaging. Lion-o was translated to Starlion, Cheetara to Felibelle, Panthro to Panthéro. Mumm-ra’s name remained the same, whereas the Mutants, Slythe,Jackalman and Monkian were converted to Krolor, Shakal and Gorior respectively. It looks like in France it was very important to have the names sounding less English and more ‘’Frenchies’’ in order to make them accessible to the fans. The same exact pattern was used for the French MOTU Toyline. All the Thundercats figures sold in France were identical to the ones in US without any variations or discrepancies on their molds. They received the figures loose and then they were packaged directly in France. The second difference is despite the fact that they were manufactured by the American LJN, the LJN logo doesn’t appear nowhere on the majority of Series 1 and 2 Cosmocats cards. It is kind of weird because even though they were produced by LJN, it seems the American counterpart didn’t have legal representation in France, unlike on the other European releases in Italy, Holland and UK where the LJN logo always appeared. The license was granted to ‘’Orli Jouet’’ and ‘’Orli Jouet’ was working with a little company to print the French packaging. However, some of the late Series 2 Cosmocats such as the Berserkers and the Companions did have LJN branded cards with a French sticker on them. Additionally, Lion-O and Mumm-ra were never sold with Snarf or Ma-Mutt.
On the other hand, Cheetara and Tygra always came with Kit&Kat on the french cards.
Another puzzling point is the total absence of Orli Jouet’s logo on the French cards, strangely the French distributor doesn’t appear on the Cosmocats but only the Italian AL.ES one. AL.ES was the official importer for a part of the Southern Europe and the French company was working closely with Italy to supply Toylines like Thundercats on the French retailers. In 1988 LJN acquired the Italian Toy company AL.ES, so most likely LJN was represented through AL/ES and probably this explains why the LJN stamp doesn’t exist on the French packaging. Orli Jouet isn’t active anymore but back in the 80s provided the French market with plenty famous Toylines like the Blackstar, Golden Girl, Infaceables as well as Board games, Disney stuff and Japanese toys. Generally, Orli Jouet’s logo was always on various French Toys but it is still a mystery why it was never printed on the Cosmocats figures.
