In an interview with Deadline, director Adam Wingard revealed that he’s working on a ThunderCats movie. This is not a rumor. This is not a drill. This is serious news.

I first spotted the news in this coverage from A.V. Club, which gives a good summary and honestly tugged at my heartstrings a bit:

I AM OPTIMISTIC. Just the fact that he’s outright rejected live action has me rooting for it. And that he’s going with the classic not 2011. And that he’s proven himself already.
This might be the one, boys.

Just about to post this! He's saying good things.

“This is a huge passion thing for me. Nobody on this planet knows or has thought as much about ThunderCats as I have,” Wingard says. “I want to do a ThunderCats film that takes you back to that ‘80s aesthetic. I don’t want to reinvent the way they look; I want them to look like ThunderCats.”

Please let this happen, and don't mess it up!

For my personal taste, they need to look like humanoids, not furry or cat featured. The themes need to be used or at least make an appearance, the original music is too iconic. Sound effects need to be badass. I don't require the exact same synth noises for the sword but awesome recognisable effects for the sight beyond sight or call to danger are a must. Mumm-ra must be terrifying.

I've been reading the news. Honestly I had no hope that a ThunderCats movie would happen, but it seems like it is. I like that the director is going the animated route instead of live-action. WB still knows nothing about the franchise as a whole, though.

Its hard to have hope for something when the last guy had some story about being a fan since childhood etc and he went on to create thundercats roar, we all know how that went

i just made a post about the same thing is there a way i can delete mine since its point less unless anyone wish to check out the poll

I just hope WB give the movie merchandise licence to a company like Hasbro, Mattel or Jazwares etc to actually get good quality, normal priced toys and action figures at retail to support the movie.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. And let's hope it turns out good... and that Tygra gets some respect

I'm honestly not sure whether to be happy or not.

On the one hand He seems to be a real fan with genuine enthusiasm, which is always good. Also while I've yet to see it Godzilla vs Kong is being received pretty well.

On the other hand....... dude directed that live action Netflix Death Note....thing.

His movies are really hit or miss. Just looking at his rotten tomatoes scores (and I know that's not the end all, be all) for every "fresh" movie there's a rotten one.

Also afaik he's never directed animation.

So.... I'm maybe cautiously optimistic?

Most of his stuff seems to be in the horror field.

We can only cross our fingers at this point. I'm sure he knows that the fans demand the best.

Godzilla vs Kong seems pretty good...well at least compared to the previous movies.

I like some horror movies...although i haven't actually seen any of the movies he has directed.

I am willing to give his movie a chance the same as Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe Revelations cartoon even though I am not really a fan of his movies.

This could really be great news. I really like that Wingard....
1) Is a huge fan of the 80s series
2) Wants it to be a combination of animation and CGI instead of live action
3) Does not want to redesign the characters

If it actually works out, this just screams 'New Toys!!!'. I'm crossing my fingers.

Great eye, T-Cat!!

Looks like CHEETARA shows up at about 1:42 towards the center of the screen, but it's really breif. She's running, and then leaps into the air and somersaults. It is DEFINITELY her.

HUGE props to my wife, who actually spotted several other characters like The Joker, Pennywise, Captain Caveman, the Game of Thrones logo, and even the Mystery Machine!
