I know this topic had probably been discussed before but I want to know is. If they had done a Christmas special how in the world would they have done it? I mean I know about the infamous he-man Christmas special which didn't make much sense as well but... lol just imagine if they'd done something Christmas related with thundercats? Can you image them meeting Santa? It would have been interesting to see Santa being attacked by the mutants or something who decide they hate Christmas or whatever. Or what if Mumm-Ra attacked Santa? Or KIDNAPPED Santa! lol That being said since Santa is supposed to be the embodiment of Good would he have been able to use the sword of omens?
Ii really don't know. It's a weird scenario anyway and I'm kind of glad they never did it. But if they had what would they have done? What do you think?

I believe if a Christmas-themed ThunderCats special were made while the show was on the air, it would be more of an interdimensional storyline where Santa and his reindeer (even Rudolph) are accidentally transported to Third Earth.

Maybe Mandora would escort Santa

Or maybe Santa gets in big trouble while Mumm-Ra turns the TCs in Christmas elves, but suddenly Lion-O remembers -after some Jaga apparition, of course- to use the SoO and the Eye of Thundera starts singing Jingle Bells and *bang!* it's all solved.

Lol that would have been hilarious. XD

As long as Mumm-Ra doesn't find the spirit of Christmas like Skeletor did, I think I'd be fine with it, haha.

The He-Man Christmas special was awful.
The only way I think a Thundercats Christmas special would work would be if there was some third earth type character like Snowman or a Wollo that went around giving out gifts and him maybe being in possession of some magical artefact that Mumm-Ra and the mutants want and the Thundercats having to protect him while he gives out the presents.

That's an idea, Mark!

That's an impressive concept!

I have the Thundercats annuals and one of them has a short story about an equivalent festivel, Rammas or Lammas or something like that, I forget. I'll have to look it up.

Bringing this thread back to life at random!!

Anyway, I think a Thundercats Christmas Special might have been cool (or totally awful, who knows). As for the cool possibility, I think there are a lot of fun, inventive ways a good writer could bring the Thundercats into a Christmas-themed tale. It could involve some kind of crossing over of our dimensions or extreme interstellar travel, not sure if Thundercats is supposed to be an alternate reality from ours or just a distant location in the universe. Rankin/Bass did some of the absolute best Christmas specials of all time so I am sure they could have found a way to create a great Christmas vibe with a Thundercats special. It's fun to think about the possibilities.

ThunderCats is definitely an alternate-reality storyline. :)

What's interesting about this thread is that The Thundercats are aware of birthdays. In 'The Trial of Strength' Lion-o comments about the other Tcats leaping out and yelling surprise etc...so if the customs of Birthdays is known to them, perhaps Christmas, or a form of annual gift-giving, is known to them...

They could do a flashback to Thundere, pre-explosion, they're all sitting down to dinner, and the mutants attack them, during the episode, Vultureman states, that if for any reason they need to go to Third Earth, he'll be along a month or so later while he trains for his inventor badges on Plun-Darr.

They doubtless had their own equivalent festival back in the day.

I always thought that "The Crystal Queen" was sorta the writers' idea of a Thundercats Christmas episode. The Berbils are celebrating a holiday, the theme of the episode is all about Tartara's greed and selfishness (because she never learned that the greatest pleasure comes from sharing and such), and most of the episode takes place in a snowy wonderland. Even the b-story with Snarf getting older sends a sorta Holiday vibe. Am I alone here?

Nope. :)

For a Chrsitmas episode, Lion-O, Panthro and Snarf were selfish enough to not summon the other TCs and allow them to hear the Arrietta Bird's song, allegedly the most beautiful in the world :tongue
