Hey guys, I was listening to the Roast Gooble Dinner podcast and they mentioned that Power-Con would be joined by a ThunderCats convention called ThunderCon. I emailed Val asking for more information, and he mentioned that he contacted Neil and Chris about it already?

Chris here...

Hey Manny, yep, Val did contact Neil and myself about this, he wanted us to be "Fan Consultants" for the ThunderCon but gave us very strict instructions that we weren't to discuss it with anybody else, which is why neither of us mentioned it to the rest of the team initially... :)

Val said that they wanted somebody to advise the organisers of the convention about things and people that it would be cool to feature, as well as contact details for some of the creators, voice actors, etc., in exchange for which ThunderCats Lair would get exclusive info from the con... :)

I told Val that we were up for this but that my time is quite limited so all I personally would really be able to offer would be advice and passing on contact info where I could - and, I also told him that in order to be able to achieve this, I would need to throw this over to the whole TCL team, because, for example, I have no contacts who worked on the original cartoon but that Nick has been in touch with all of them, etc. :)

All the time this was going on I got the sense that Val wasn't being straight with me - Val tried to set up a meeting on Skype with Neil and myself, we both logged on and Val never made it. He seemed very eager to discuss the details on Skype, which is difficult for me to be available because I'm always out and about... :(

Anyway, I told Val that I'd like to make it work but (being suspicious) told him that whilst I'd be very happy to advise and share any info I could, because of my limited time I wouldn't be able to actually contact the people (VA's, etc.) on the convention's behalf, and Neil & I both said that, being in the UK, it would be impossible for us to attend the convention...

...at which point Val went cold on the idea of us being involved and told us (for the first time) "they really want someone they can speak to on the phone, and who can attend the convention".

Did Val really think that Neil & I could just hop on a plane and fly to the US especially??

So yeah, that was that - I have no idea who (if anyone) is organising it now - my opinion is what the organisers of the con are looking for is someone who can basically do all the work for it for (literally) nothing - our payment would have been exclusive info for this site + free admission to the con (which is useless to Neil and myself). I think Neil would agree that the way Val went cold on the idea suddenly was very abrupt and my own view is that when I said I couldn't actually find the time to organise the speakers attending the convention myself, I basically rumbled him! ;)

It's a shame in a way because it would've been a good thing for this site to be involved in, but to my way of thinking the whole thing smells a bit fishy. ;)

Take care... :)

Thanks for the info, Chris. Was the ThunderCon the reasoning for why he messaged me, thus forwarding him to you and Neil? Was this the secret project that he was not able to reveal?

I'm not sure who is in charge of the ThunderCats part of the convention either. He wouldn't give me information via email. He asked for my phone number, but just like Chris, I'm a bit busy at the moment.

He's probably after roping you into being fan consultant! ;) If we had someone based in the US with more free time it would have been a good thing for this site, but I've a suspicion that what the organisers want is someone to basically do their job for them! ;)

Take care... :)

Let's just say I'll never set up a meeting with Val Staples again! and Chris is right, they just want a smhuck to do the donkey work.
