Oh I like these tweaks much better! Has anyone shared this with Matty? Looks great! Though in fairness, all of these will end up crushed in my garbage can.

I do the same with my Marvel Legends packaging LOL. I will say though I kept my several MOTUC figures packages...they came in handy when I sold them as I got a bit more money for them.

hmmm...they say "Lion-O packaging..." and not Thundercats packaging. weird. Cant imagine they said ok to having the Sword of Omens on everyones package including the mutants and bad guys.

Bio:
Lord of the Thundercats, Lion-O is a cunning leader known for his great strength and agility. He yields power with the magical heirship of his forefathers, the Sword of Omens, which allows him to see faraway lands and to contact the Thundercats when there is impending danger. Lion-O is also able to avoid perilous situations from the guidance received from Jaga who advises him spiritually. Although Lion-O is ruler, he is a child in a man's body eventually challenged to grow in moral strength through the Code of Thundera-Justice, truth, honor, and loyalty, and Lion-O always succeeds.

Best I could make out.

I love the packaging as well as Lion-O's bio. :)

I don't know how near the top Lion-O's head will go in the package, but I had a quick go at modifying the box. It could work out that the banner would obscure his face, but I thought I'd have a go just to see how it might look.

You're truly an artist, Booshman. ;)

Packaging looks cheap and nasty.
I wonder if anyone can show a custom example of what it would look like inside the packaging. Maybe booshman?

Maybe Mattel could release a picture of Lion-O in package.

i was hoping the packaging would look a lot better as i won't be opening any of mine . is this packaging confirmed as the one we are getting or is it just a mock up ?

it was posted by Matty Collector on their FB page as the new Thundercats packaging. Take it for what you will I guess.

I am not a fan of the packaging as a whole. I do however like the bio on the back. To be perfectly honest, I will be opening my figures so if they show up in a brown paper bag with a hand written bio I will be extremely happy. I would prefer if mattel kept the package simple (like they have done) and put that extra time and money into making more figures for 2017.

I hate to say it, but I really dont like it :( The box/blister style is fine, but those graphics really dont work. Re-using the MezCo artwork, which has nothing to do with the animated series, is a weird choice. The image on the front looks very cheap and the lack of the ThunderCats lettering is bafelling. This looks like a poor imitation of the Bandai Classic packaging. I really hope this is not final.

Totally agree.
On the Mattel Facebook page everyone seems to like it which I don't get at all.
Can we start a petition or something for them to change it or get booshman to design a new one

Yep. They just flipped it and reworked it a little. Even the strands of hair on the side of his face are the same.

the back of the BanDai Classic figure also sports the same images...

Not very inspired.

I was expecting cel art based on classic cartoon.
Something similar to what Joaquim Dos Santos did for WB in the early days

As a plus it's also complimentary to Castle Grayskull art refresh

Looks like Mattel just decided to go ahead and use the art kit provided by WB.
Since this is a licensed property it's possible Mattel is restricted to use what WB has.
From the looks of it the archive doesn't go very deep. More on that later..

This same kit has been used by Mezco, Pop Culture Shock and Icon Heroes.
If they continue this route we already what to expect for the other characters..

You can also see the pyramid/lair art in the background too.

Which begs the question.. no new art has been created since 2010-2011 who is going to do Pumyra, Grune and Jaga art?
Will the artwork be consistent?

WB's other commissioned artist Dave Williams. His artwork has been used on everything from shoes to Minimates.

And lastly..
Where the hell is the original ThunderCats lettering?
The lettering they're using on the back of the box looks like someone dipped the damn thing in urine.
This is the worst rendition of the logo WB has used yet

We've seen various recreations of the logo over the years but the iconic, nostalgic art is MIA.
I really believe now based on all the interpretations and deviations of the lettering that the WB doesn't have a high definition scanned version in their possession to use.

Here it is folks, a photo of the original art, yes it still exists and it's in private hands. The quality and artistry speaks for itself. Even at this low resolution you can see the the brush strokes.

The owner of the artwork is willing to have WB professionally scan the art but hasn't been able to successfully reach anyone within Mattel/WB.
Can anyone in this forum help?

Yes, I actually really liked the Bandai packaging. The main thing I like about the Mattel packaging so far is that it has a nice large window, but it definitely needs some work IMO.

I can't be sure of the scale since I don't know the box demensions, but here's a quick mock up.

Thanks for that
The packaging looks worse now with a figure inside. Disappointing that they've ruined a decent figure. They should have used one of their original designs

I wouldn't say it's ruined the figure, but it's definitely a missed opportunity if this is the final design they go with. I would have probably taken any of the other initioal design sketches they did over this one.

I've seen mention elsewhere that the box shown may have a sleeve on the outside, which would explain the lack of the Thundercats logo.
