Sideshow HAS been known to do variants of their statues. For example Skeletor has a realistic AND a more show accurate face. Also Evil-Lynn has a more cartoon inspired "classic" version as well.

Can see the base better here. Honestly, it doesn't look as bad from far away. Might be ok on a shelf.
ToyBro posted on Twitter and reminded me of this unreleased BanDai figure:
Pretty close, right?

They're planning a Cheetara statue as well? Sounds cool! :cheetara

I hate to consistently be "that guy", but Lion-O looks lame. I thought Mumm-Ra looked cool, and the little design differences weren't too distracting. Lion-O here reminds me of the Superman Returns suit. Do you really need a chest emblem and the same logo on your belt? Overall over designed and too busy for me. If you're going to do a re-design there is no point unless your surpass the original. This hasn't in my book.

I hate to admit, Lion-O is really growing on me. I still don't like the furry body, but I can overlook it. My biggest issues are the symbol on his chest and the shorts. I think shorts like that would be better suited to Panthro.
I really like Mumm-Ra and that Cheetara design is on point IMO.

The only thing that is bugging me is the pose. I kinda like the outfit. At the beginning I had a problem with the face as well but the more I look at it, it doesn't bother me.
I pre-ordered the Mumm-Ra and Lion-O.
Cheetara looks amazing. I just hope that they hold off on her a bit. Otherwise my wallet it going to beg for a vacation.

For those of you who had doubts Sideshow announced that less than 20 of the 400 exclusive editions of Lion-O currently remain.
Personally I never wanted that one because I don't like the roaring face, but, yeah they're getting sold sure enough.

I wonder if these are the updated look for the movie coming out in a few years?

Lion-o is lame, save your money. The mumm-ra statue is not too bad. But $500 USD is a lot of money for a "not bad statue".

Sideshow announced their usual art print for the statues. They're always overpriced, but you can get a look at what some of the other characters will look like in the line.
Tygra and Panthro look great IMO (though you can't see much of Panthro), and so do the twins. Snarf and Slythe look too cartoony, but that could just be the artist's style and the statues could look better. Monkian just looks....off to me... Vulturman, Jakalman and Jaga look fine though.
I just saw the artwork. It almost makes me forget that that the characters' designs are too far removed from the old show. At least we get to see all the main first-season characters in that shot.

I'm not particularly taken by the redesigns, but they look more faithful to the original than the reboot was. I wonder what people's reaction would have been had these been the look created for the reboot? I will say that Lion-O looks better in this 2D rendering than the sculpt they came up with. They did draw his belt logo backwards though, doh!

I noticed that little error. ;)

I really don't like Lion-O's cycling shorts design.
It reminds me of that time in 2003 Triple H started wearing weird cycling shorts before quickly going back to wearing his regular trunks.
