ThunderCats are back ...in parody form!

Whether it's for kids or no I'm not going to watch it. I'm tired of every show I liked being reduced to a parody, I'm not even a nostalgia critic who grew up with the original either since i didn't even know thundercats existed until 2016. I just heartily dislike the ugly animation of today and the brainless, mindless flanderization of everything remotely good. The last thing I want to see is mumm-ra reduced to a meme spouting joke. Call me whatever names you want but I'd rather reread the terrible dc comics or rewatch the remake over seeing this abomination. They dodn't even resemble cats anymore. They look like cosplayers that got their costumes from the dollar tree. It looks like the artist drew everything with their butt, and while I have frequently used this image as my favorite reaction picture for all things ugly anf stupid I feel I'm perfectly justified to use it again.

I know there will be a subset of fans who are very put off by this style/approach, but I am going to welcome this reboot with open arms! I have long thought that Thundercats may need to reach out to a younger audience and this may just be its chance. I have two kids (7 and 3) whom I watched the trailer videos with and they are both just as excited as I am. I have raised them right and exposed them to both the classic and 2011 series and we will certainly embrace this one as well. The original and 2011 series are always going to be there for those of us who are fans (and believe me I am a very passionate fan of both). This is a new take and I believe it can be a great benefit to the Thundercats brand!

However, the show can also be regarded as a direct insult to the intelligence of today's generation. Isn't it borderline unethical to have enjoyed all of these hi-quality shows only to have future generations/descendants exposed to rather rubbish caricatures (and a downright downgrade) of the original(s)? If I were a time-traveler, objectively speaking, I would say this current generation has been keenly duped. And, we are effectively contributing to this problem.

Thank a lot TC Fans, now we have a crummy version of the series.
You just couldn't give the 2011 reboot a chance could you? U have to ignore it! Shame on all of you..

I think it goes without saying that I take ThunderCats extremely seriously. The events of the original series might as well be historical fact, as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe that's why a comedic take like this doesn't bother me at all, but rather intrigues me. It's not trying to rewrite history or equal the tone and grandeur of the original, much less live up to it—nothing ever will for fans as dedicated as us. What it can do is appeal to our senses of humor. It can wink and nod to the original, highlight the absurdities, lovingly nudge our beloved characters in the ribs, all without insulting anyone or altering the reality of what came before.

I take issue with the criticism of the animation style. Just because it looks doodly and or appears to lack obvious detail doesn't mean it isn't complicated or artful. It's just not the artfulness we're used to.

I do, though, empathize with the sense of disappointment that the introduction to the ThunderCats universe for many kids will now be very different from the one that we had. We may be proven wrong—the Code of Thundera, the power of teamwork and the growth of a young lord might come to the fore and inspire the target audience. Or it might just make them laugh. Either way, though, they might just ask their parents, "What was the original ThunderCats like? Can I watch it?" And that, in my mind, is far superior to a fan-servicey remake that does nothing to expand the audience.

I think the real “subset” will be fans who actually give this the chance it so richly, so obviously, does NOT deserve.

Compelling story and quality animation expand an audience. Making a mockery of something doesn’t generally send people in droves to check out the source material. Additionally, I bet this show will not last more than a season. It will sully the good name of Thundercats unnecessarily and leave an even smaller audience in its wake. Hahaa sorry to be sooo negative and I’m not attacking you, this new take just rubs me all kinds of wrong ways....

I don't disagree. But I also think it's too early to discount the storytelling, and I think there's a difference between mockery and parody. One feels mean-spirited, the other can be reverent in its jabs. But, again, it's too early to tell. I'm just trying to keep an open mind, and to trust the creators when they call themselves fans.

I don't think it's fair to only qualify certain styles of animation as "quality". This is a style, and they appear to be doing it well and purposefully. It certainly fits the tone they're going for.

But, yeah, if the storytelling sucks, if the jokes are cheap, and if the art is crumby, it won't succeed, and I won't defend it.

This looks rubbish. That said, I'll give it a go to see what it's like for a couple of episodes. Hopefully we get some good exposure for the original show out of it.

Also, I'd like to mention that xluckinkostylex is, as usual, spouting the same nonesense about the 2011 reboot, and having a go at people with seemingly no repurcussions. I've had a warning from admin before for using a swear word, and I've seen others banned for what I would consider lesser offences. xluckinkostylex appears to have one agenda, which is badmouthing anyone who didn't care for the reboot and whining about MLP and TMNT getting preferential treatment over TCats. I'm sick of reading his nonesense posts and would hope the admin will do something about him.

I agree with your quality animation point. I’m an artist, love all kinds of art styles, animation styles. This show’s art does not look fundamentally bad, though the designs are jarring, the style suits the (unapplealing) direction the show is shooting for. So, yeah it’s not necessarily “poor quality” animation.

The more I see the footage we got, the less it grows on me, I'm afraid. It feels like it's mocking the show we grew up with, instead of being just a parody.

And I really don't get what their brainstorming was like...

- We need a new ThunderCats show, it's time!
- Great... what do we need?
- What made ThunderCats great?
- The character designs, the aesthetics, the story, the music, the futuristic set...
- Was there anything fans didn't enjoy that much?
- Yeah, their comic-relief, Snarf. Some say he was a bit annoying at times.
- Bingo! Let's make a new parody show and turn every character into super-annoying, terrible versions of Snarf!
- Hooray! Let's do this!

Booshman , I get it, the 2011 series is not everyone's taste.
But I don't care what people says that was the best series ever made, sure it doesn' t follow the original mythos and it doesn't have the whimsical campy 80s charm, and it has some flaws , but still it's a cool show.
Is this new show for 2019 I'm worried about . this might be a another cancerous teen titan go flip flop cash cow.

I agree. Something truly sinister must have happened during their brainstorming sessions.

People at social media are getting truly furious, even those who never watched the original. The main character introduces himself and farts. Where did this ever happen before?

Admin note: "Shame on all of you?" Are you ill? I've had multiple complaints about your posts and I've given you the benefit of the doubt every time. No more.

This doesn’t look like it will be a “children’s” show though. It’s supposed to be like ThunderCats meets Rick & Morty. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting. I’m on the verge of tears over this.

It's not even that. It's some kind of Steven Universe / Gravity Falls show... But with Thundercats.

Jesus christ this is not what i wanted after the 2011 version.

We needed something like the 2011 show in terms of animation and production quality but closer to the original series designs and setting.

But no, we're old blokes and we're wrong. We needed a babies doodle show because kids today enjoy that stuff. How about no?

Children enjoy whatever they're given and it's up to adults (companies) to set the quality standards. That's why, for me, western animation is as good as dead.

I have 0 interest in seeing this forthcoming Thundercats cartoon - it looks like crap! It's an insult to the Thundercats franchise & to the fans. What a sad joke.

Conversely, I did really like the 2011 Thundercats re-boot, and it's my favorite incarnation of the Thundercats mythos. I really wish they would revisit that, but it doesn't look like they will.

I don't think it deserves so much contempt. I'm sure other people pitched TC ideas, but this guy sold them on this work. It is not my style, but I appreciate the work and hustle it took to make this. If this was made and put on youtube, it would probably get shared here with some enthusiasm, and we would all get a laugh. The franchise has to expand, this is part of it. It opens the door for some people to the original work, who are then inspired to create their own versions. Look at the ninja turtle animated series cycle. If the franchise is allowed to expand the original aesthetic will come around again. The old stuff is not gone, we are just waiting for it to be new again.

Alright guys let’s start working to get this series boycotted and cancelled! We cannot let this happen.
