All your comments are exactly why they'll never make a movie. I'm surprised they agreed to make statues.

Be more open minded.

Being outraged that the Sword of Omens can be used for evil purposes in that script is being "closed minded"? Then where would you draw the line? What hypothetical change would you consider unreasonable? Or would any story that has characters with the names of Lion-O, Jaga, etc. be a good ThunderCats story in your opinion?

There is absolutely no reason why a movie script could not be made that followed the general guidelines we all (should) know, while taking some artistic liberties, and still turn out good. In fact, I'll even take a stab at modifying the script, here goes:

*Grune killed Lion-O's mother when he broke in looking to steal the Sword of Omens; she happened to be the only person in the room with it, and she gave her life trying to protect it. She succeeded in keeping Grune away long enough for the Royal Guard to stop Grune, but not before being mortally wounded.
*Mumm-Ra made Grune an offer when he arrived on Third Earth and tricked him into being enslaved to do Mumm-Ra's bidding.
*The arks will catch up to the ThunderCats in about 8-9 years. Thus giving the ThunderCats a couple years to find a way to get off Third Earth and make it to the twin planet. The arks are prepping to leave just before Jaga discovers the twin planets, with the first one set to leave within a week.
*Snarf was left on Thundera to come on one of the arks as it was deemed too dangerous for him to acompany the ThunderCats on this mission.
*The Mutants are from the Planet Plundarr, but they are a race of intergalactic pirates. They've had run-ins with the ThunderCats on Thundera (that group led by Ratilla). Another group, led by Slithe had a crash landing on Third Earth about 1-2 years before the ThunderCats arrived.
*The whole story about the floating city and six species remains, with minor alterations, but the races are as follows: Warrior Maidens, Wollows, Bolkens, Tabbuts, Tuska Warriors, and the Unicorn keepers species (drawing a blank on their name).
*The Mutants sneak into the floating city and take it over (as opposed to the Mutants living there previously).
EDIT: *No zombie-fied twists. Either Slithe falls on the sword and dies once and for all, or he is defeated and taken prisoner.

Bada Bing, Bada Boom. Still get a new story, but now it stays true to the core source material. Perfect? Probably not, but I think more people would be open to it.

this script reads like loosely based fanfic using the Thundercats characters.

and i know some people really dislike the Snarf, but think about this. go up to any child of the mid 80's, and ask them if they remember the Thundercats, and even if they were not fans, the one thing they will remember is Snarf.

Grune is one of the better villians in the whole series, this movie erases his true existence from the storyline? terrible.

The Sword of Omens in this script is basically reduced to just a kick ass sword and nothing more.

The sexual tension this writer introduces between male and female characters was predictable and uncreative.

Here's what i'd want to see, not like it would happen.....

A movie or cartoon that acts as a legitimate prequel to the cartoon series itself, giving more details about Thundera, its history and its destruction. To be followed by a movie or cartoon that acts as episode 131 and on. Thundercats is widely available on DVD, it was the best cartoon of the 80's hands down. He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe, those cartoons were toy ads with ok plots. Thundercats may have been a vehicle to sell toys, but the plot was awesome and the cartoon was entertaining. There's no need to recreate the Thundercats, it already acheived greatness.

Actually most fan fiction is better tha this script (she said from experience). And I completely agree with you on the fact that Thundercats has already achieved immortality and greatness :)

Interesting quotes about the movie that is still in the works! "Chase Me Productions" will be the producing studio. Its kinda hard to imagine Panthro being purple, but Skeletor's cat "Panthor" was also purple(so i guess if he's not blue, purple would be next in line) :)

Great news! I wonder if WB will hire a new director for the movie that has experience in making blockbuster movies or will they keep a rookie "phenom" movie director in Jerry O' Flaherty? (yeah i'm only hyping him up b/c he's involve with ThunderCats! lol)

I'm about half way done reading the script and I've enjoyed it so far. Its not perfect, but overall it feels like a nice attempt to both recreate Thundercats fora new generation & stay respectable to the original.

don't really like it...

I couldn't agree more! There are a lot of things I don't like about this "script", but I think everything has been said already. It just seems pointless to re-write Exodus (badly;)). The original episode was 22 minutes. A movie is 90+ minutes. Plenty of time to stay true to the original AND introduce new sub-plots and/or characters. I'd like to see the Exodus story from the Mutants POV!

Bwahaha. that was awesome.

But to the lairs credit. The script was being sold on ebay days before it ever went up here. I'm not sure if that makes a difference but it doesn't seem like insider info when its on ebay.

Ya know what? I'm gonna open my mouth. You guys are the reason why movies don't get made. Scripts, get leaked, pics get leaked, and you guys just can't leave well enough alone. Look, if you don't like what you see and want the original....shut up, go to your TV, grab your Tcat DVDs, place the first two eps in, watch the show and STFU.

You are ruining it for the rest of us. You brag about insider info....I have insider info too.....you have a C. and D. order about the script. You shown the pics, and all of a sudden the movie is on hold. You have the script and now all of a suden you have to take the script down,.....this was ordered a few days ago but you didn't. You guys are the reason why the movie was stopped. But hell, you said "hey, they know who we are..." no, their lawyers know who you are. You are killing it for the rest of us.

PLEASE STOP IT! I want this movie made, so can you please knock it off with trying to get insider crap. Can't you just stick with toys and comics? PLEASE? You are ruining it for the rest of us and the U. S.

Ugh and don't try to look down on me, others feel the same way too.

There is a difference between a fan site and an offical site......you are not an offical site, get that though your head and I love this site alot, don't ge me wrong but you have ruined it for the rest of us and all of the Tcat fans with your so-called leaks.

*queen lynxana grumbles and looks at Lion-O

"Don't look at me cub, I didn't do it."

Scripts and production details including concept art leaks all the time. This is nothing new, if it wasn't for TCL it would be some other movie sites covering this.

The pics leaks has nothing to do with WB's decision to halt/cancel the movie. Besides Thundercats they have halted Wonder Woman, Flash which were both in script stages and in early production. Of course there is a possibility that due to some negative fan reaction they decided to go with a different creative route for the movie, i.e. live action instead of CGI.

Avatar script and its reviews have been available online since the early 2000, now after almost 10 years the movie got released.

There are thousands of pre-production movies which are at concept stages with ready scripts and they will continue to remain in that stage until finances and proper creative teams are finalized. All these takes years together. During all that time, script and concept artwork are bound to get leaked to some degree. And I am sure if WB were having problems with these leak reports, they would request TCL to take it down and the TCL staff would comply immediately.

Yeah, sorry but why are we not allowed to give our opinions about something? I know a Thundercats fan site is not the place to discuss a ThunderCats movie, bu... o wait...:lionomad:

Lynxie,
You are entitled to your opinion and it is duly noted. However, I agree with the posters pointing out that messing with the Sword of Omens and the Jaga the not-so-wise aspect. There are some items you don't mess with from the original. Like in Transformers, if the they messed with the basic concepts of the characters of Megatron or Optimus...it would kill it. What they did with Bumblebee I was at first not happy, but accepted the update and went with the flow. It did work--for me eventually. Maybe not others. So, I would rather complain and let my reactions be known as the base audience of the movie will be US! They will want to pull in new fans/people yeah, but disappoint the base (US) and I feel the movie would would be gone quicker than Astro Boy's movie run. (And that was a great, sweet family movie that handle the update fantastically, and I was a little girl when I saw his 1st U.S. run in thde early 60s) Yeah, I gave my age away. :pumyrahappy:

P.S. - For the minor parts fo the movie! Leave the Romance out of it! Unwimp Tygra and let him be the intelligent architect he is! And let the kitten be teenagers. I wouldn't mind seeing the new Thundercats, but would not be upset if they came along in second movie!:D

Get your facts straight before you open your mouth. Stop embarassing yourself...

The movie was not stopped because of us and FYI all the info we put out was approved beforehand. The script...not so much since it was on Ebay for days before we posted it. We only forked over $5.95 to a seller in the UK who was selling them online.

Two thumbs up for your words of wisdom

if this website ruined the production of this movie by posting the script, i'd say "GREAT JOB!"

i've hoped to see a TCats movie since i was a kid. if this is what is made, it'd be a real disappointment.

perhaps they can get someone who is more of a fan of the show to write a quality script if they do decide to ever make a film. otherwise i'll stick to the show and be thankful that some bizarro/alternate version of the TCats isn't out there.

How's that? Would a studio not like to know what the die-hard fans would have to say before the movie gets too far along? In the event they were even to read this thread (doubtful) they could see that the majority of fans are perfectly ok with Grune killing Lion-O's mother, Jaga only being able to appear in only one spot, the ThunderTank being brought from Thundera, the rest of the Thunderians waiting for news of a safe place to go to, etc. And, more importantly, they can see there would be some concern/backlash for rewriting the rules for how the Sword of Omens works, etc. Then they could do small revisions BEFORE making the entire movie. And those revisions would make it a better movie for two reasons, it keeps it within the range of what the original said/did, and it ensures more people will enjoy the movie.

It would be like when you were in school and you would turn in a paper that you thought was perfect and the teacher would hand it back with it being graded a "C", with notes on what you did well on as well as poorly on, and then saying you could correct it for a better grade. All you, the studnet, would need to do is make changes based on those notes and you are almost guaranteed an "A" on the final paper. Fans discussing the good and bad of this script serves the same purpose. Keep the good stuff, correct the mistakes, and the next version would be ten times better resulting in almost everyone being happy with it. More happy people equals more ticket sales equals more money coming in equals a win-win situation.

I read the script and have to say I did not care for it at all. Except for name recognition, there was nothing in the script that said "Yes, these are the Thundercats I grew up with." When I gave my ex husband a quick run down of the script (he's not a big reader) his first comment was "If there is no Snarf, then I don't want to hear about it."

The thing is, this movie is supposed to bring in a target audience, those of us who grew up on Thundercats and the new generations whom have seen the eps via the DVD collections. If we go to see a Thundercat movie, we are expecting something from our memories of the show. A movie based on this script would let a lot of fans down, at least, that is my opinion.
#39
The ThunderCats are peripheral characters in the script. There is entirely too much focus on Kaeli and the Nightfolk.
#40
I didn't read the script, but supposedly it was an early draft, even before a director was chosen for the movie.

That being said, it has been interesting to see the interest in the movie, which is still currently "shelved." If anything, this particular draft of the script has spurred renewed interest (both positive and negative) amongst fans and I think having 'something new' to talk about is a nice change of pace.

There are way too many rumors about the current status of the movie that it would be impossible to determine what is legitimate and what is fake.

What I can say is that the ThunderCats project that was being helmed by Jerry O'Flaherty is no longer in development.
