I have a Lion-O figure and it has two small holes in it's back; one just above the battle-matic-action lever and one just below the lever. Does anyone of you have any idea why the holes are there?? Or have a figure with similair holes?

Hi, I have a question: I have a Lion-O figure and it has two small holes in it's back; one just above the battle-matic-action lever and one just below the lever. (I'll try to post an image of it soon). Does anyone of you ThunderCats freaks have any idea why the holes are there??:liono I'd love to here from somebody cause it's driving me nuts... Thanks! Justin

Its possible that what you have is a Brazilian Lion-O, or one from South America.

Mine has one below, where the ring goes to light up his eyes. Are the Lion-O's that came with the Thunderwings different perhaps?
#4
there different in the fact that there is nothing in the back. Its blank. the fig is solid with a flat back. The Glasslite Lion-o Manny is talking about has 3 screw holes in the back which house screws. I would like to see a pic but I dont think its a glasslite fig, just based on you saying there are 2.

holes!

I got round to taking some pictures of my weird Lion-O... It's not from Playful or anything, it's a normal Lion-O... except for the holes...

That Lion-o looks like he has very dark red hair, also a burgundy color?? Could it be like the other member stated, the one from South Africa?

I don't think so... Except for the holes this Lion-O is the same as my other Lion-O's. The bottom of the foot reads: (right foot) C 1985 Telepix,LCI,T.Wolf LJNTOYS LTD. B2 (left foot) B1. So thats normal.

As for the hair, I have a couple more Lion-O's with the same colour.. Is it that much darker than the maroon Lion-O? (I'm still not sure I have them all. I think Holland didn't get either the orange one or the maroon one..;))

I have had 10+ Lion O figures and I am pretty sure none of them had those holes. Very interesting.
#9
Still no idea why this Lion-O has these holes on its back.. Since there are many new forum-members since my original post, any (new) thoughts?

Judging by the spacing and placement of the holes and the fact they are not symmetrical to the back trigger (the top hole is slightly to the left of the shoulder blades and the bottom to the right of the spine) that they have been drilled for some reason. Maybe the previous owner had attached or tried to attach something to his back at some point. I've opened and repaired the arm mechanism and broken limbs on a lot of figures and there's no reason why the holes would be made during manufacturing. Just my opinion.

Maybe someone somehow tried to repair his mechanism? They could be holes for tiny metal tubes or something like that...

You can tell by looking at it that it was done in the casting process. At first i thought they could have been casting errors, but am now inclined to believe that this was either very late production, or very early production. Probably Late...

Yes, you are correct, it was done in the casting process (its more noticable in person). What makes you think it was a very late production?

Do you have a decent lense to inspect the holes? I don't think this would have been anything related to the molds. The cost of tooling a mold to produce something like this is high. There would have to be many examples if this came from a production mold.

The hair color and off-colored chest is consistent with 22-Back Lion-O's

I think you might be right about that, but the holes weren't drilled by a previous owner or something, it was done in the production process. The holes are smooth and consistent in color and texture with the rest of the figure. Clearly factory made.

Of course...:D I'm located in Holland and we didn't get much 8-backs/ 14-backs over here...

Still wondering why those holes are there..

Still don't think so, but do they line up to the battery hole placement? On a mobile so can't see all of the previous posts at this moment.

Very strange, the top one looks like it is drilled on an angle and both holes are off center. I have some figures that open up to sure the lever inside but not sure if that will help. May remain a mystery :)

Yep :) All I can say is that the figure has not been opened or something like that, it's just a normal, loose, C7/C8 Lion-O with these holes. And (in person) you can tell that those holes were made somewhere in the production process, they look as though they should be there, but there is just no good reason what so ever..
