Targeting a younger audience?

I often question the way WB has handled the Thundercats franchise. Without knowing more about it I dont want to condemn the idea, but I am glad in this instance that they decided to go with the 2011 version over this "kids become Thundercats" one.

And why not?

Because that's not what Thundercats are about. I know a lot of shows try different things with the characters etc and sometimes it can pay off but I honestly think this would be too much of a drastic change. But having said that I am someone who grew up with the OS and I am thinking about it appealing to new and old fans. Maybe the rock band would have appealed to current children but I just don't think it would sit well with OS fans.

Actually feels like kind of a "spin off" or "continuation" type deal to me. I tend to like those better than straight up re-boots myself 'cause often it lets us look at the stuff that would otherwise have been overlooked in the main show. The OS was just so dang huge but with a tendency to start a really good idea and give little to no follow through. I can already see where attacking from this angle might give some follow through on some of the ideas mentioned in the OS.... I shan't fear change because everyone is gonna get something different from a show (especially one like this). If something seems odd to you in an idea, it is merely because someone picked up on something that you ignored. Anywho! I would agree that on something that doesn't have that many iterations in the public eye, something new and different wouldn't be a safe choice. Folks are more open to it when something popular like TF or something. TC isn't terribly popular anymore and the fans are territorial.

LOL. TF fans are even more territorial. All they want is the same thing over and over again. I can't think one series after G1 that hasn't had either Optimus Prime die and comeback or Megatron to turn into Galvatron.
The new TF Robots in Disguise series that's starts where Prime left off interests me though as it seems Bumbleebee is the leader. Although judging from the toy pics from SDCC a certain red and blue truck will be making an appearance and probably becoming the leader again. ;)

Maybe this will seem hypocritical of me after my views on Thundercats but I wish they would do something new and more interesting with TF rather than keep repeating the same thing. Is it too much to ask for a fresh batch new characters with different names.

They work their bizarre in a frame work (but then they HAVE a steady framework). They can get odd inside that frame (I'll site beast macheins/wars on that one). Zelda does that too. that "sick of the same" attitude makes it possible for very popular stuff to get away with pushing the limits.... thing is TC didn't have stern limits, exactly, neither are we "sick of it." As much as maybe sick of only one character? *coughcough* toomuchliono *coughcough* Give someone else a shot, maybe?

This is why that "Kid's turn into thundercats" intrigues me. You could attack it like "digimon tamers" (sort of meta thing there). We can analyze the old characters more in-depth through the eyes of new ones. Provided your very genuine about it. That could get hokey quick. (I have something very specific in my mind, but bless me if I can't exactly explain it.)

Transformers Animated and Transformers Prime (Prime died but didn't come back...yet), and also Transformers Rescue bots (though Prime and Megs are hardly in that one at all).

I agree with some of the points you made. Beast Wars was probably the best TF series ever.

Correct me if I am wrong, I haven't seen Animated in years, but doesn't Prime die in the first episode of Animated and Siri brings him back to life.

Honestly it's been a while since I saw it too, but I don't remember that. Could be wrong though.

I just had a check and I am right he does die in the first episode of Animated during a battle with Starscream.

I lost interest in the newer version about episode 3. I didn't like how they made them more cat than human and having Lion -O and Tygra bothers. And the new version of Snarf I didn't like one bit. And The movie what is up with that we need a Thundercat movie.

I am curious what everyone's thoughts would be if they came out with a Thundercats spinnoff cartoon? Something along the lines of Thundercats:Berbils or Thundercats:Warrior Maidens or Thundercats:Snarfs (don't shoot me) where the Thundercats make appearances but aren't the main stars. Don't get me wrong I would much rather have a new Thundercats centric series but alternatives crossed my mind esspecially when considering a young audience.

I'm the EXACT opposite I would LOVE to see spin offs. Wouldn't it just been neat to see what hachiman(I got the name right mwahahah) has to deal with being flung into the future.... Oh wait, that' Samurai Jack.... and it is neat.
#33
I would love a Spin Off show. Maybe Hammerhand's adventures before he went all evil.
A Hachiman show would also be very good.
Of course being a fan of the Ewoks I would be all for a Ro-Bear Berbil series, I definitely think it would appeal to a younger audience. A good bunch of writers could do something great with it. As for toys I think they would sell really well.
#34
I wouldn't mind seeing a "ThunderCats" spin-off series where the 'Cats make cameos.
#35
Ya I would be very intruiged in some of the spin offs they could go with! The Thundercats universe is so diverse and creative there really is allot they could do.

I get the Thundercats Universe with the OS with the space travel and the many different locations and interesting characters of third earth but I really didn't get it as much with the NS.

I have to say I woould be intruiged to see Thundercats do something like this. Maybe something based along the lines of the Thundercubs 80s episodes.

That would be interesting. It could focus on the main Thundercats or it could be based on young Lion-O.
