This is great news! Thanks for sharing. I had heard that there is quite a bit of footage that only appeared in the TV version and nowhere else.

That's pretty cool news. A few years ago I tracked down the 3 hour extended version of Needful Things. I wish it would get an official release.

Most of the time, extended/director's cut of movies are mainly released to cater to the hardcore fans. Much of what was deleted in the theatrical cut usually doesn't make too much of a difference to the overall narrative especially for the average movie-goer. But at times these longer versions can really improve the movie.
One movie that I found had some rather strange editing was "Terminator 2". After watching the extended version I felt that they unnecessary deleted so much of the good stuff and instead left so much of the boring stuff in the theatrical version.

I remember Superman: The Movie. It turns 40 years old next year. :)

The TV was made to pad the run time so they could add more adverts. As a result there is a lot of crap that is not needed at all, Otis walks though New York for waht feels like a very long time. There are some other bits that are definitely worth seeing though.
