Site Relaunch: The site index

Hey all, I wanted to get an idea of how many pages are out there and what needs to be worked on between now and the launch:

I've put this spreadsheet on google docs so that we can update it as we go. Chris, Manny could you go through and strike through all pages that you've already moved over?

I'm discovering that this list is not complete - damned site crawlers don't really work very well... It's only gone down two or so levels and isn't capturing every lower level page. However it does seem to have got everything at a top one or two level. This should be usable as a way to track our progress.

Wanted to mention too that I would like to declare the scripts and French Encyclopedia as "out of scope" for this initial relaunch of the the site. I'm suggesting that we tackle the upload of these only after we've finished launching.

Because: these sections are just LOADED with hundreds of pages that are one off images and it is a tedious task to move them over "as is".

Unless there is a violent disagreement on this I propose we do them after our initial launch.

First of all, Mark, well done for setting this up - I've gone through and marked up the pages listed that I've completed, bear in mind that for the new site I have restructured the Cartoon Section slightly (which I've already completed) and so some index pages have been struck off that list because of being rendered obsolete. :)

My biggest criticism of that list is that it doesn't list any of the Comics Section pages beyond the main http://www.thundercatslair.org/comics index page. Unfortunately there could be as many as 200 pages of Comic Section material still to move, so that spreadsheet makes me look much closer to completing my work than I actually am!! :D

Mark, thanks to the Shadowbox JS script in the new site there's actually a much quicker way of doing things like the Encyclopedia, it's possible now to access all the pages (i.e. the JPEG images of the Ency pages) via one page. As such, I've actually already completed the French Encyclopedia, and IMO improved the usability of it into the bargain! :)

The Scripts can be done with similar speed and efficiency, the scans of the pages are all done, MannyF wanted them re-watermarked with the new site logo that Kyle's going to be working on but if we feel that's a bottleneck to getting them back online I can just put up the versions with the old watermark and change them at some point once the site goes "live", the whole job of uploading them would probably only take me an hour. :)

Hey Chris, seems that the site crawler I'm using won't pick up the URLs in the Comics section, I've tried to crawl them a few times with different settings with no luck. You may have put them up in a format that the crawler doesn't recognize.

If you could index them though I can have all of those pages looked after for you.

Manny, do you have a way of doing this that I don't have access to? Maybe through the host service?

Thanks for the info on the scripts. I'd still rather leave this work for later. An hour is a lot of time that could be better spent on more important sections.

Hey Mark, I've made a start listing all the Comic Section pages, but am only halfway - if you check out the spreadsheet you'll see what I've added. :)

I'll add some more later but have to head off to a gig in an hour and need to start getting ready - the next thing I need to do is list all the DC/Wildstorm Original Comic Art pages and there are 79 of them in total! :eek:

Updated the spreadsheet with all the DC/Wildstorm pages, tomorrow I'll add in all the Miscellaneous Comic Art pages and then the other bits and bobs from within the Comic Section - that then will be a complete catalogue of all that needs doing for that section! :)
