Searching Newest Members

I think someone asked in another thread if there was a way to search for the newest members. I found a way. Go to Members list on the forum itself here, then click advanced search. At the bottom of that page there's a drop down list, starting with alphabetical. Click and change to Join Date then in the box next to that select descending. The memberslist will load with our newest members first, and you can easily scan for spam looking folks there :)

Hope that helps us weed out the vermin!

Thanks much for tha...leanr something new every day. I can view the newest members and the way i was doing it was on the admin control panel.

No prob. I knew vbulletin must have a way to view members and order them in a few different ways right from the board because my board software - which is just freebee smf stuff - can. It's just not as immediately obvious here.

Using the feature has sped up the ban hammer process for me so hopefully between all of us, we can really stay on top of the spammers :D

Yeah I tried it a little last night. It makes it easy to do a preemptive ban one blatant spammers.

There has got to be a better way to do this. I was clicking thru members, starting with the newest, and I'd say there's at least 35 pages of members that are likely 90% spammers at first glance, and pages worth join daily. I probably spent 2 hours yesterday deleting spammers and was feeling proud of myself til I realized I hadn't really made a dent.
Maybe some of them will never opt in via email and be a problem. It'd just be nice if our legit new members weren't lost in a sea of spamming accounts. And leaving the ones that put bad links in their sigs is just asking for trouble. I wish vbulletin had some way to select a group, quarantine them and then easily click through them to verify before deleting. Like when a mod is looking at the members list, it'd be cool if there were checkboxes - you could check all, send to temp ban or something, then go to the mod panel and look at all your temp banned members and make a final judgement and be done with it. idk, I'll have to read up on this board software and find a better way. My current methods are slow and at this rate, we'll never get ahead of them.

Yes, I'm a perfectionist and this annoys me lol

Ive been banning so many spam email addresses its not even funny. The ones who join are using free email addresses like hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc. Typically spammers do not verify their email and so they sit on a que called Users Awaiting Email Confirmation. Those that sit on that que for more than a week I automatically delete their accounts. Obviously if someone doesnt verify their email within a week then there is a high chance it is a spammer account.

Spammers are getting very smart and some I think even verify their accounts so it is hard to catch them.

Oh good so there is at least a pending queue.

Is there a captcha or anything when a user creates their account? It doesn't stop all of them but it'll get a lot of sign-up bots. I was also wondering if users can personalize their profile before opting in via email. Some of these guys have full blown profiles with links to spam homepages and long lists of things in their sigs, avatars, etc - whole nine yards. Was wondering if there's a setting maybe where they at least have to opt in before any of that can be done.

And yes, some are verifying. I caught one jackass while he was logged onto the board last night - banned him before he could do anything else.

We do have captcha, but it doesn't seem like it's doing anything :( Spammers have been in full force the last 2 weeks.
