Late news but i figured I'd start a topic on the latest news. What do you think? Did he deserve it or not? What do you think the outcome will be...perhaps and appeal or death within the next few months. I'm against the death penalty but that man does not deserve to live. Im not God to judge someone but the crimes he comitted against people was not only inhumane but more like brutal. Some say he will die by low drop hanging which means he will die a very slow death but then again. Dying is the easiest thing for him and it would not bring back the thousands of people he ordered to be killed. I'm interested to know if any other method of punishment is fitting for him as I think its too easy to just hang him.

We already know my stance on the death penalty, and I am in full agreement with every word you said, Manny.
With a person that evil, I am not against bringing back midieval death sentences, i.e. stoning him or quartering.
He was an atrocious human being and maybe his slow and painful death can bring a sense of fairness or justice to the families of his thousands upon thousands of victims.

I personally dont condone the death penalty (though in cases I think it is warranted) but I dont think that by Saddam dieing, gives any justice to the people he tortured and killed. I personally think that he should sit in a cell surrunded by pictures of everyone he killed and pics of the corpses/tortured bodies or put him in stocks and everyone that has family that he killed can hurl rotten eggs at him

The problem with that is the cost of keeping him. Jails, no matter how decrepid, have to be paid for as well as the staff that maintain them. Why should a piece of scum like that be sheltered for free?
He is serving no purpose to anyone alive, so I certainly won't cry when he is killed.

I too wont cry when he dies and I also understand the point of someone having to pay for the prison, but I dont think his one life equals all of the people's that he killed. To me a death by hanging doesnt amount to equal justice for what he did, I just see it as closure for the familes.

Yeah i do think hanging was the easy way out, he should have been handed over to the people and they could have ripped him limb from limb.
Anyway what does everyone think about the video controversy. Gb's prime minister condemmed it the pope condemmed it (not that I care what that bigot says). Is there any reason for so many people to be offeded becasue people were taunting him and he was giving it right back to them. I personally dont see what the fuss is about. The people didnt like him and the things he did were atrocious so who cares if he is getting told go to hell on his death bed. It's not like people keeping there mouths shut would have made his excution easier or more humane, I mean he was going to die anyway. I think that we are forgetting that death has been a form of entertainment all over the world for years, just now we are trying to forget who we were and pretend that we are humane. I think that we are fooling ourselves people have taunted people forever, what difference does it make when your about to die if your picked on. I mean how often has the person that is being put to death cursed someone or told someone off right before they die, nobody gets upset about that. In fact it's come to be expected I would argue.
Is anyone upset by the videos, or do you think no big deal he got what he deserved? Any thoughts are welcome

Myself, I fully support the death penalty... especially, so in the case of Mr. Hussein.
I’ve seen the videos of his execution and sadly, I have to say that they disturb me… not for their content, but for the sad display that was little more than lynch mob justice.
Unfortunately, I honestly believe that a major opportunity to establish some creditability was lost by the new Iraqi government. While the criminal is dead, they assured that he would forever become a martyr for the Sunnis to rally around.
Mr. Hussein was a convicted war criminal, and he should have been treated as such.
No media fanfare, few guards… and of those, highly professional in both appearance and demeanor. And if the execution had to be documented, the government should have made sure it was done professionally, with access tightly controlled.
Cell phone videos and sneaking your buddies in to see the corpse… oh yes, lovely.
Saddam is dead… the bad man is gone. Unfortunately, the antics around his death will be remembered, and they will help to keep his memory alive, instead of letting Saddam Hussein fade into the footnotes of history… as he deserves.

I'm a bit scared to click on the link now Manny! I don't want my face to do this: :jaw:
As for agreeing or disagreeing to the death of Saddam -- whether he's alive or dead, people are still dying in Iraq and terrorism is as strong as it was in 2001. I really think Saddam was an escape goat for Bush seeing as though he hasn't captured the guy who was actually in charge of 9/11. Until Bin Ladin is dead and our troops are home, I can't really say killing Saddam did anything. May be it did something for the people of Iraq, but the government there isn't any better than when Saddam was in power. People dying before...people dying after.

Good points Fuzzy. I also think it Saddam will become a martyr. Your points about the excution being handled better are very valid. It should have been handled a hell of alot better. Like i said it was like us stepping back in time.
