WELCOME EVERYBODY TO THE SECOND DISCUSSION IN THE FIFTH STRAND OF THE NEW CLUB "R.O.C.K.S." - REWATCHING OLD CLASSIC KIDS SHOWS!
A big thanks to everyone that are joining us through all of this.

Threads 5A and 5B will focus on the 80s classic Danger Mouse, and for this show, we're doing things slightly differently. Because this series has 10min episodes and 20-25min episodes (in some cases these are 5x5min episodes edited together to tell a continuous story), we're going to do two longer ones and two shorter ones at a time.

This week we're watching:

The Man From Gadget (10m)
Alping Is Snow Easy Matter (10m)
The Four Tasks Of Danger Mouse (25m)
The Great Bone Idol (25m)

Just the usual friendly reminder to everyone that, whilst fans are obviously welcome to passionately discuss and give their views on these episodes, please remember to keep things on a friendly footing and respect your fellow posters.
Also, please do not post where or how to find the full episode online. And do not post asking others to PM it to you. You are however allowed to watch the show in whatever manner you want.

Aside from a couple episodes I am not too familiar with Danger Mouse episodes. So when it came to selecting the second batch of episodes I had to look up The Four Tasks of Danger Mouse to find out which episode had Duckula's first appearance.
So the other episodes were just random picks.
I really enjoyed all four episodes.
Alping is Snow Easy Matter was a fun episode.
Even though I am Irish, the Irish character in The Man From Gadget was a surprise to me. :D
In The Four Tasks... I like how it showed Duckula playing the mouth (beak) organ. Not so keen on his first appearance design. I like regular design from his own show.
The Bone Idol is my favourite of this bunch. Duckula is in it quite a bit. The truck scene with DM and Duckula and the ending in the ruins remind me a lot of Indian Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I'm with Mark. My favorite of the bunch is definitely "The Bone Idol". Very much like Indiana Jones.

And I too didn't like Duckula's design. He looks like Daffy Duck and even speaks with a similar lisp. I'm surprised WB didn't sue!

Well, you'll be pleased to know that Count Duckula got a new design for his spinoff show. Of course, it could be argued that it wasn't technically the same count, and that he'd just been restored by that secret rite referred to in the opening titles, but I get ahead of myself. We're going to do Count Duckula for the next two weeks btw.

Anyhow, yes, The Great Bone Idol - great play on words there. It's a good episode that reminds me of a bad episode of Defenders Of The Earth, "The Panther Peril", where Ming was out to get the Sacred Tooth of Pantheria so he could control all panthers. The fantasy plot didn't quite fit in with the format of that show, and Kshin was really annoying in that episode. Not one I'd recommend. But in Danger Mouse, which doesn't take itself too seriously, it works just fine.

I liked The Four Tasks Of Danger Mouse - again a play on words, but in a different vein, The Twelve Labours Of Hercules being the inspiration there. Here, Greenback insists DM get him certain ingredients for a spell - much like the Thundercats episode "The Doom Gaze" - where the items needed are listed at the start, although the actual questing for the items there doesn't take up much of the episode's time, because the mutants are doing it, and our heroes' angle is, what do they want with these things? Anyway, it all worked well in DM, and I'm going to stick my neck out and say this was my favourite of the bunch.

The Man From Gadget - sort of a weird episode in that the salesman gets the biggest part. There's no big plot to this episode, the operation itself proves straightforward, it's just this salesman keeps coming back and making it impossible to advance the plot. Again, good thing this is a comic show, because something like this would not work in DotE or Thundercats! It only just works here. It's all well and good having a good guest character and giving him a big part, but he kind of dominates things a little too much here.

On the whole, I have enjoyed the show. I'm not sure it's something I could watch in large doses, but a few at a time are fun enough.

I have the complete DVD boxset so I still have a lot of it to watch.
