Painting rare figures.

Hey guys

I've just purchased a playful bengali from eBay complete with original weapon.
The weapon its self is really worn and list most of its chrome paint due to age, I know how rare this hammer is with the playful bengali but I'm a completist and also. Bit of a perfectionist.
So the big question is, would it be crazy to try and repaint the hammer with chrome spray paint and what would be the best method?..

Thanks guys

Some of the customizers here would probably have good advice on the best method. As for whether or not you should do it? I feel whether someone attempts to correct/restore any of their figures or keep them as close to original as possible is up to them. If it is for yourself and you would enjoy it better than go for it. However if you are thinking of reselling in the future some collectors look down on it.

I was thinking of restoring it for personal reasons but ant the same time I really would like to keep it as authentic as possible. Decisions decisions haha.
If it wasn't the fact that is a chrome finish I probably would do it if it was any other colour.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I like everything I collect to be as NM as possible so I will probably keep bugging me if I don't attempt it but there's always I possibility of getting it wrong and I wouldn't want to get it wrong with such a rare piece that could take a long time to find again.

I like all my loose figures to look fresh too!as for the hammer I'd crome it if thats how you want it!but if you do resale make sure you say its been restored! And I'd do a test with the spray, before you do hammer as I find the crome finish hard to get right!

I have only a little experience with doing customs and painting them.
Maybe this will help. This video shows it being done on a Gundam model but maybe you can use it on Bengali's hammer.

If you paint it silver you'll be unhappy with the look, trust me. You can re-chrome it though, just Google businesses in your area that specialize on that. I've had various pieces over the years re-chromed and they looked fantastic. Some of the pieces that come to mind is Fisto's fist, the head on my cobra de aco's, and various bits on transformers. The more you replate the more you save, should run around $20-25 a piece.

My advice would be to not touch it at all. Personal preference of course, but I view it that it is what it is due to it's history, and it would be a shame to lose that by painting over it.

I do think you should make a mold of it though, and make your own repro weapon. You can paint that however you like and the original will remain unchanged. :)
