Guys, would love a second opinion on this post the board flagged for spam, as I'd hate to ban a legit member.

Checked the profile and there's not a lot there to make a determination and the post itself is...okay. Only real red flag for me is the email domain. When I google it I get a lot of "stop forum spam" links etc so it's a notorious vehicle for spammers. Seeing that I'm leaning toward clearing that post as spam as that has been a good indicator in the past of people that are up to no good.

Thoughts?

Edit: Just saw this same user posted the same message in my fan fic forum (which btw I thought should be inaccessible w/o a password due to it be categorized as adult fic) so now I'm very suspicious...

Edit2: User posted outright spam, so banned him. guess sometimes an instinct is right!

At any rate, been trying to go through my sections to clear spam accounts. Wow, there's a ton :( Guess I should try harder to stay on top of it! There's a lot of accounts using the same email domain with many of them having that kardashian porn link in their sigs...I thought we had it set so newbs can't have sigs?

But if newbs have signatures, it helps in bringing down the SPAM Hammer.

Yes, but my prior argument for blocking sigs on new accounts til a user makes x amount of good posts is the simple fact that we're overwhelmed with bad accounts, so these profiles sit there with porn links etc accessible to anyone browsing the members. And since we want to promote a clean, family safe environment on this site, it's counterproductive to think a child can stumble on such a profile and end up lord knows where. By contrast, the board software catches most of the spam posts so I'd rather force them to post to show their true colors.

An empty profile may make it hard to determine if it's a spammer but if they don't have anything bad in their account and they're not posting, I guess they're only guilty of taking up space.

I agree and I think the Admins should get this sorted asap. It has to be possible to implement these suggestions to counteract the spam. There is no excuse really.

I'd propose going a step farther to see if homepage link can be blocked for newbs too until they make their x amount of good posts. I'm sure legitimate newcomers will understand, and the post restriction can be set pretty low - we can usually spot the spammer pretty quickly once they do make a forum post.

I just noticed this junior member http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/member.php?u=12968"" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">RetaTaccife who has posted the same thing in over 5 threads. I am not sure if he is spammer or just doesn't know how to properly intoduce himself. Have a look

Even though he isn't offensive neither profane i believe he should be banned as a spammer.

Ok guys i banned this guy, sorry for taking the initiative but he kept posting. His IP:

Unfortunately I cannot find anything that would block certain features until the user makes x posts

Ok...it looks like I may have to make new usergroups for established members which would have perks like signatures etc. Those that are new members dont get sigs or anything special until they move up with posts.

The only way spammers will be able to post new threads is if they reach more than 5 posts. They can still reply to existing threads so that should cut down spam posts dramatically
I have set it up so that users that reach more than 5 posts get moved to established
