It must have been late 1985 when I was watching an episode of Thundercats where Lion-O gets sucked into a black hole. I remember my family was getting ready to go out to dinner etc. in a bigger town about a half hour from where we lived. My mom was ready to go, but I was very engrossed in the episode. Somehow my Dad got into it too, and he told me mom we had to wait and see if Lion-O escaped from the black hole.
Later that night after dinner we ended up in Toys R Us. Of all the years to be an 80's child in Toys R Us, 1985 had to be it. I remember the aisles had so many iconic toys: GI Joe, He-Man, Transformers, MASK, Thundercats. As we were walking up and down the aisles, I found myself standing in front of the Thundercats display. I looked at my Dad, thinking maybe we could buy Lion-O. I figured he would say no. After all, it wasn't my birthday any time soon and Christmas was still some time off. I asked if I could get Lion-O, and my Dad said yes. I picked him up off the rack. Then my dad motioned to the rest of the team and said we had to get the rest of them. I ended up walking out of there with the Lion-O & Snarf pack, Panthro, Tygra & Wily Kat pack, Cheetara & Wily Kit pack, and Mumm-Ra and Ma Mutt pack!
I played the heck out of those toys. At some point poor Cheetara got lost and we never knew what happened to her. I was always sad that the Thundercats team wasn't complete anymore. A few years later my parents got me the Mumm-Ra Tomb playset. I realized that I needed some more bad guys so I was able to trade my friend for his Monkian and the Sky Cutter, so it was nice to have someone to do Mumm-Ra's bidding.
Then, one day in 5th grade, I sold it all at a garage sale and bought Mario 3, thus ending my Thundercats story.

I think that episode might be called 'Sword in a hole'. My Thundercats story came a lot later as I wasn't born until 1988. However, I am from the UK where Thundercats didn't disappear until the 90's. In the early part of the 90's, Thundercats toys were still available in some UK stores. Being as young as I was at that time, I thought Thundercats was relatively new, even though it wasn't. I caught it on TV sometimes but it wasn't on as much as I would have liked. I didn't know why at the time but I do now. I had quite a few VHS tapes that I used to watch repeatedly. Funnily enough, Thundercats is always the show that my dad remembers from when I was a child. I remember the day that I got the VHS tape with 'The Ghost Warrior' and 'Return To Thundera' on it. I think it may have been from WHSmith. My dad put it on for me as soon as we got home and watched it with me. I also used to watch 'Thundercats Ho! The Movie' a lot, which is the UK version of 'Thundercats Ho!' parts 1-5 and he didn't seem to mind that so I think he quite liked it. Those 2 VHS tapes were my favourite Thundercats ones, even though I had a few others. One had 'Tower of traps' and 'The garden of delights' on it. The other one had 'Pumm-Ra' and Spitting image' on it. Then I also had the Exodus Pilot on VHS which was the first 4 episodes put together with some minor differences. I still have that one just because it has a few scenes cut from the broadcast versions. It also contains 'The Lost Intro'. My dad mentions Thundercats from time to time so it's probably quite nostalgic for him too, he's never forgotten it. I think it's because it was the first show that became my absolute favourite. There would be others that followed like TMNT, which was pretty soon after so I was a fan of both at the same time for the most part but I'm sure I saw Thundercats first. I also think that I liked Thundercats slightly more. I thought it was a bit more interesting. There was actually a 10 year period when I didn't watch Thundercats at all but it's never been forgotten. My Dad was the one who used to take me to a shop called Woolworths quite often, which was where I got a lot of LJN Thundercats toys. I think he was with me each time I got an LJN Thundercats toy but he must have gone at least once without me because I remember getting some of them for Christmas along with a load of other stuff. My parents knew I wanted Thundercats stuff. I think I got some TMNT stuff as well that year. I think it was Christmas 1992.
I also got into Batman: The Animated Series, MMPR, X-Men and Spider-Man later on.
I really like that LJN toyline. I have the full cat team but not the 3 who joined in season 2. I have Jaga though. I also have Hachiman. I have Mumm-Ra, Ma-Mutt, all 5 mutants, Grune and Mongor. I have the Thundertank too. I used to have the sword of omens but that split after having it for a long time.

Thanks for sharing! I love hearing other people's stories. I'm from the US, but I've traveled to the UK twice for vacation. First time was 2009 and I went to London. Second time was 2012 and I ended up heading north to Skipton, Leeds, and Yorkshire Dales.

Wonderful story! I’m gonna venture a guess and say that your Cheetara ran away. [emoji6]
