@Wilycub even if it was just a miniseries like Chuck Norris and the Karate Commandos it would have really helped. None of Chuck's 70's and 80's movies were PG but kids still knew who he was and they wanted to capitalise on his popularity.
You are correct I meant to say Terminator 2.
The Alien franchise is also another line of toys Kenner marketed to children based on a more mature movie.
Much like Indiana they were also made like Star Wars figures. But due to the backlash of the 12" alien/xenomorph the 3.75'' line was cancelled.
Although a couple years back Super7 accuired the moulds and licence and released them in their Re-Action line.
Luckily Kenner had a lot more success in the early 90's with their Aliens and Predator toylines.

Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken, Kenner also made toys based on the movie "Waterworld", which again wasn't really a kids movie.
I was wondering, have any of the current toy companies (NECA, Funko etc.) produced any Indiana Jones figures/toys? Like they've done for other 80s franchises like Terminator, Predator, Alien etc.

The last modern company to make Indiana Jones toys was Hasbro in 2008/2009 for the pretty large Kingdom of the Crystal Skull toyline. Aside from KOTCS figures it released modern representatiohs of all the characters from the previous movies.
Before that around 2003 Disney released a few exclusive figures only sold at their theme parks.
More recently Sideshow released a 1/12 Indiana Jones figure.
Sideshow and Hot Toys figures look great but I don't really consider them toys or action figures as I can't imagine most people wanting to play with them or even pay for them. ;) They are a bit pricey lol.
It's strange how such a successful movie franchise hasn't had that much merchandise.
If the rumours of a 5th Indiana movie coming out soon are true you can be sure there will be some company releasing some figures.
Hopefully Hasbro will continue their 3.75'' figure line and maybe release some 6'' figures like the Star Wars Black Series.
