We're getting a ton of traffic right now due to the news and the forums are running super slow. We need to limit the image sizes or else the forums might go down!

Chris here...

Just replied to your PM about this, Manny - to quote myself:

Hey Manny & Manny,

I'm happy to defer to you guys on this point - my biggest thing is that I think fans will want to be able to see large versions of these images so they can check out the detail, especially bearing in mind that the shots of the figures themselves are from a reasonable distance away. Nevertheless, I do agree that they make the boards run slow... :)

Is there a way that images on the boards could be set to display a certain width, and then folks click on them to see full-sized versions (maybe that open in a new window or something?). If the full-sized versions are hosted off the forums then those loading up in a new window shouldn't cause our forum load-times to lag. I have a vague recollection of He-Man.org's forums having something like this but don't quote me on it! :)

We do actually have a forum rule in place about image sizes but nobody ever adheres to it, LOL! I must admit I don't really want to come down heavy on dr_slump with stuff like that, given that he's just brought a huge amount of traffic to this site and our forums by posting up these pics! :)

And yes, this is definitely all very exciting! I'm very impressed (and pleasantly surprised) by how faithful the character updates are, it's obvious who or what everyone is and for us old-school fans, everyone is pretty well instantly recognisable! :)

...But yes, if there's a risk that our forums will go collapse under the weight of this then we need to take steps about this. Any ideas / suggestions how to go about doing it? :)

If only we had the new site online now, we could have posted this straight to the front page and that would have redirected some folks away from the forums! Oh well, one more week and this won't be a problem anymore! :)

Take care... :)

We need an image resizer like he-man.org has for those people who post images using services such as photobucket, etc

That is a plugin for vBulletin that can be obtained through them unfortunately I do not have access to download free plugins from vBulleting website.

Can you get that plugin Manny so we can implement it on the forums

Chris here...

Hey gang, Angie just PM-ed me to LMK that her signature image for these forums has just broken, due to our changing the max image size for the forums. Apparently it's been reduced to 2KB, which is pretty small, LOL! :)

I have to say I think we should bump the image size back up again a bit, as the images we thought were slowing our forum down are actually "hotlinked" so changing the image sizes hasn't altered them at all...and 2KB is minuscule! :D

Anyway, no worries, but just thought I'd flag up to you guys what Angie told me! :)

Take care... :)
