Just another theory

Just a thought, what if Lion-O's desire for a love interest was never about hormones (though that might have played a minor role), but was more about him wanting someone he could really connect with.

Think about it; he was always so distant with his father (who favored Tygra, no questions asked), he never knew his mother, the general public thought so little of him and for all that was shown, we are led to believe that he had no friends growing up, save only Snarf. Oh sure, Jaga and Jorma might have counted, but, that's left purely to speculation. And in any event, he could never have the same connection with Jaga that Cheetara had (which is a little ironic when you think about it).

Perhaps when it seemed like Cheetara was showing an interest in him and Pumyra appeared to finally be understanding him and his ideals, he thought he had finally found someone with whom he could connect with on an emotional level, someone who actually understood him, after so many years of feeling like an outcast, inside and out.

I thought about that as well. I truly believe that he was seeking companionship and not just romance.

That's a very good theory, srebak, and one I happen to agree with. :) I also feel that Lion-O was really craving a friend, someone his age who understood him and could see things from his point of view.

He never really had any friends prior to the destruction of Thundera, and later on even after forming the "ThunderCats", he still did not have a true friend. Panthro was much too old to be his friend. He was more of a father figure. Tygra never got along with him since childhood. The Kittens were too young to understand Lion-O's feelings and his thoughts. Snarf was more of a pet who didn't speak. Only Cheetara and Pumyra were the right age and displayed a sort of empathy towards Lion-O that no one else did and perhaps that is why he was attracted to them. Of course it doesn't hurt that they were of the opposite sex and beautiful as well! ;)

he needed that soulmate that can help him to feel better, complete. There were so many things that made him feel bas as a brother, son, warrior, person... por leon-o.

To be honest, I've been thinking about how those two would make a good match;

They're both young royals; they could both have a somewhat negative view of royal life; they could both feel unappreciated and disrespected by their own subjects and they could both feel connected by the fact that they can both use Sight Beyond Sight.
