Hey guys...just want to give you guys a heads up that it seems as if forum member indiabluesplit is very serious in undertaking the project of making a printed ThunderCats Toy Guide. Ive been in contact with him and he really wants to make this happen. I told him that any material on the site he can use for a printed guide and if he is really serious about putting this together that obviously we would require for him to give credit and perhaps a % towards the site for upkeep.

I mentioned that it was an idea we had for quite some time but that the resources required to make it happen is really beyond us.

Also he asked me if we had a "Donate to TCL" link on the site. Its funny becasue we have discussed this so many times and yet we push it aside even when folks are willing to donate for upkeeping the site.

Update: Seems like he is very serious about putting this together, even so far as stating that the guide will be "[FONT=Arial][COLOR=navy][FONT=Arial]in print with an ISBN number by the end of summer".

[COLOR=Black] Also Matt if you read this would you give him permission to use your foreign figures material??

Chris here...

This is very interesting stuff indeed - it would be great to see a printed ThunderCats toy guide!

My own $0.02, the Toy Section isn't my area but if he is going to be using any material (images or information) from the toy guide on this site then I would like to see this site receive both a shout-out in the book and a percentage of any profits... :)

I'm not necessarily so greedy as to expect us to receive a percentage cut of each book sold until he recovers all the costs of getting it printed, etc., but if and when he began making a profit then I would want to see us receive a percentage of this, as he would be using info and content that the team (primarily you, Neil and Matt) took the time to provide and create for this site. To be honest, if he was going to use any material you guys put together, I personally would want this arrangement to be a strict condition of his use of it - however, at the end of the day that's yours, Neil's and Matt's shout first and foremost. :)

Re: the donate button, you guys know that I have always been in favour of this and I believe that we are depriving ourselves of potential revenue towards this site's upkeep by not having one - even if we made $15 in a year, $15 is still $15! ;) But, when we discussed this, Mark & Neil were both very strongly against the idea and so we let it ride, to be honest I can't see it ever happening because of how uncomfortable they were / are with the concept, more uncomfortable than the amount we'd raise would probably be worth. :)

Please keep us updated with all developments on this front, MannyC! :)

Take care... :)

Yeah one of the things I mentioned to him if he ever were to put this together with material from the site would be to both give us credit for the material and a percentage of the profits. My understanding is that he will be using a great deal of the material on the site and if so then we should receive a portion of the profits. He brought up the donation link so my best guess is that he is looking at donating towards the site but since there is no link then he really wouldnt be able to do it. I did tell him he should contact Neil as well and all of us can provide input. He did express that we may think of him as a "dreamer" for bringing this idea and having the intent of making it happen. It is a huge project to take on and understandably many people may think of it as simply an idea.

Truthfully I think that he can pull this off financially. I obviously dont know his finances but I do know that where he works at the pay is very, very good. He works in a deployment zone and the company he works for (KBR) pays huge salaries to their employees

He pm'ed me and I'm yet to reply. However I'm not comfortable with my content being used :( I'd prefer to keep all the pieces I worked on exclusive to this site. More to the point I don't actually think many of our images are good enough to go into print and better pics can definately be taken!

So that leads me into wondering how serious he is, when he wants to use our images, that in some cases (for example the loose ThunderTank pics) are sub par! Is it an easy way of doing it, without having to do much work himself?

Or if he is using content from my articles, he'd be using my work and taking credit for it...

Yeah I'm not sure this will be of much benefit to us, if I'm being honest.....I'm very uneasy about it.

EDIT:

I've replied to his pm requesting more info on exactly what content he'd like to use and how the guide will be set up etc... I'll see what he says......

Yeah Manny he can use my stuff for the guide and he can credit the site. I haven't been in contact with him in a while but he did ask if I could send him my foreign pics. I told him I would actually just forgot til I saw this. I do think that they should be watermarked for the site though, for security sake and if he is actually going to use the write ups I think he should use his own articles.

I personally dont see his project being a huge success. Thundercats have been covered so many times such as in Lee's, Tomarts etc. And anybody that is interested in the foreign figs will most likely go to the internet and come across our site and purrisas and the other ones that are out there, so really there isn't a need for the foreign figs in a book. I just really don't see this as a huge successful venture but thats me.

Also from a collecting standpoint I'd rather not see the foreign figs in a book. The more exposure they have ultimately means that the price will be driven up on them. I mean it used to be nobody really cared for playful figs except me for the most part and people liked the glasslite ones cause of the boxes and hardly anyone had seen a cosmocats fig or even heard of the unitoys figs. But he has drawn all of those out into the open it seems like and now everyone wants them. So I would rather the info be on our site and be able to showcase the rare foreign pieces rather than them also being in some book.

He wont get all my pics, but maybe group shots I think. The site will get all the rest if I ever can finish labeling them and send them to Chris.
