I know that this Sword of Omens replica will be pretty expensive, though I'm not surprised that it isn't accurate to the official Rankin/Bass model sheet for the sword, especially the ThunderCat insignia.
I agree I think there is a definite lack of detail on show here. It's not even a photo, it's a low res render. With this high price tag they need to better show off what a customer could expect to receive.
Their site makes this statement: "It requires a fair degree of artistic interpretation, working hand in hand with the licensor, to take 2D drawings created for animation or toy sculpts, both of which were intended for a less detailed execution, and realize them as fully developed and full-sized real-world items."
Can't say I agree here. There is a design that the makers of the show used as animation refererence. It is possible to directly translate this image to 3D. I've seen it done to a metal sword on Youtube and I have even done so myself in Fusion 360. Now this was the first model I made using 3D software, if I can manage it I'd hope they could.

That's a pretty nice rendering you made of the Sword of Omens, even in its incomplete form.

I agree we could use to see more, especially at that price.
I bought the unofficial sword that is going around at Collector's Outpost and the like and it's very nicely done even if it isn't perfectly accurate. To replace it this needs to be flawless as my current sword can be had for less than $100. I love my sword of omens.

I have already ordered it but I'll see if it takes better form for the price they are asking, if not I might as well cancel. I certainly agree with you guys that it could use a little more polish in terms of being accurate to the show, given the hefty price tag. I mean I got a pretty good replica for $65-70 from the local flea market, it is of metal construction with great heft. The only issue is that the eye of Thundera has a plastic shell with a printed sticker under it:laugh. It also didn't have the right paint scheme which I rectified myself, so it looks much better now. However, it does have a light-up feature.
So these guys couldn't even implement a digital Eye of Thundera that could change from a slit to the insignia with the press of a button and with a decent spotlight, again given it's $600?!! Really would it be an expensive implementation to have that kind of a feature?

Mate, you never cease to surprise me with your skills. I would say you could reach out to them and show them how you do actual research! :biggrin
Or even give them pointers to improve the design.

Thanks mate. I don't know if I could offer advice without comong across as a smart arse. The steps are, Google Sword of Omens reference, look at it, design a sword to match it.

That Sword of Omens model sheet shows how the sword's longsword form is supposed to look. It's a real pity that WB and other companies like Factory Entertainment know nothing about ThunderCats.
