Episode 4: My Feels!
#1 MAY 28, 2016 · 9 yr ago
So.. I watched this episode for the first time last night and... I have to say it's got to be one of the saddest things I have watched in a long time. For all the bad things I have to say for this series this episode got to me. I actually cried watching it.

It reminds me a bit of the Studio Ghibli movies. The Petlars were the true stars of this episode. The Thundercats were not even needed. The story of the Petlars and their journey could easily have been a stand alone movie. In fact this episode feels like the idea for a movie that was just shortened and the Thundercats added.

Now that you mention it. It seemed quite out of place in the series. heh. You're right though. It could have made for a very emotional movie and yeah the thundercats being there wasn't very important. I would have liked to learn more about those little plant people.

I suppose they are somewhat similar to the Micrits from the original series. But the Petlars were really fascinating characters. The writer really should try and write script for a movie about them.

It kind of feels like they're using characters and ideas that could have had their own series or movie and just shoving them into thundercats episodes which is kind of a shame.

Yep. Also I think The Drifter character was heavily inspired by Usagi Yojimbo.

Yeah the drifter felt like another out of place character.

What I don't get is why didn't the reboot use more of the critters from the original? Why did they have to create new critters for third earth when there were PLENTY of original species in the original they could have retooled into the new series.

I believe they did have some. The Berbils, Trollogs, Giantors, Wollos and Snowmeow were all shown. Who knows what others were planned for the second season.

Ys there were a few I know that but the new creatures they show feel very out of place, as if they should be in a different series altogether.

Quite simply I believe the people that made the 2011 series did not have much love for the original series. they just used the 2011 series as a way to make what they thought was cool instead of embracing all the things that made the original series great.

That might explain why everyone seems slightly... of.. and don't even get me started on what they did to Mumm-Ra. *fanwoman rage imminent lol*
I still am not sure why mon*star made a cameo. Was he supposed to be a thundercat?

Who knows. Probably someone thought it would be a cool Rankin Bass tribute. I didn't like Silverhawks or Tigersharks.
Frankly I think they messed up Lion-O, Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro, Snarf, Caludis and Pumyra's characters just like Mumm-Ra's.

They didn't do well with those gys either OR the twins. I know the twins weren't super awesome in the original but they were never THAT annoying. Lol Mark I have not watched Silverhawks OR tigersharks. I only know about mon*star from a few youtube clips where he looks like Lion-=O's evil uncle.

I'm sorry adesse. I just can't get past how badly they characterized people. There are some things I like about the new series. some of the characters have nice designs and the art is lovely to look at. I like the fact lion-O's dad is voiced by the original Lion-O voice actor (even if he DOES die in episode 2) But a lot of the ideas, concepts, design choices and well plotlines feel out of place and just annoy me. And I'm sorry to say but Grune and Panthro don't looke like cats. they look like gorillas.

Oh, no need to be sorry. Different opinions are what make things interesting. I really enjoy both versions for different reasons.

True. Kit and Kat were competent warriors even for their age in the original series. They were indeed very annoying in the 2011 series.
Silverhawks is a mess of poor ideas. The show honestly didn't know what to be and borrowed a lot form other shows and wasn't anywhere near as good as any of the shows they tried to copy. If I was to describe it they borrowed a lot form Thundercats, Galaxy Rangers, C.O.P.S., Marvel comics and even (interms of the bionic/robotic enhancements) Centurions and Starzingers.
They even have Mon*star do a really pointless Mumm-Ra style transformation sequence.
As for Tigersharks. The phrase scrapping the barrel comes to mind.

I have to agree mon*star seemed like a rip off of Mumm-Ra. But at least Mumm-Ra didn't have to use a giant space squid for transportation. ROFL
To be honest when I saw silverhawks art I thought they were ripping off G-Force.

sorry, hon, I really did try to like it but I couldn't. Maybe if it hadn't been called thundercats and had been called something else it would have been better. I mean there were a lot of good ideas in it but like I said about the petalar episode, those ideas just didn't feel like they belonged in Thundercats. I don't have anything against people who enjoyed it.
