Aside from two cast members, David Tennant and Kate Micucci, I am not familiar with the rest of them. I am sure David Tennant will do a great job as Scrooge. Same for Kate as Webby.
It will be interesting to see how the new Duck Tales compares to the original.

I myself am only familiar with Kate Micucci and Toks Olagundoye. I wonder if the voices of Heuy Dewey and Louie will be the actors' normal voices or will they be "duckified" like the original.

I'm not really impressed by most of the animated shows airing on Disney these days. Maybe it's because I belong to a different generation and don't really get the appeal of these shows which are targeted more towards tweens. Somehow I suspect that the "Duck Tales" reboot will probably be in the same vein as these shows. But I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong and the show turns out to be more like the original! :)

I have the Duck Tales DVD I got for £5 but it was never my favourite. I preferred Gummibears, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers and Talespin.

There were quite a few episodes of "DuckTales" that I didn't like at all. But some were my favorite and I watched them over and over again. "Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers" was also a big favorite of mine. I only watched a few episodes of both "TaleSpin" and "Darkwing Duck" , but I had the video games of both. Unfortunately I still haven't seen "Gummi Bears". I also enjoyed "Wuzzles", which I believe was the first Disney Saturday morning animated series.

Darkwing Duck never really grabbed my interest.

I loved Gummi Bears. It's really worth watching. Check out ''For A Few Sovereigns More''. You should recognise who Flint Shrubwood is based on. ;)

My weekend viewing was Thundercats, Defenders of the Earth and Kissyfur on Saturday then on Sunday it was Gummi Bears, Chip n' Dale later replaced with Talespin, various Disney cartoons of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck etc and Dennis the Menace.

I am super excited for the DuckTales reboot! I wonder if they will make any toys?

I also was a big fan of Chip n dale, Talespin, Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck and Gummi Bears. Disney cartoons of that era were amazing but tailed off after the early 90s.

Gargoyles seemed to be pretty good Disney cartoon.

That's a good question! I'm not sure. As far as I can remember, Disney didn't make a lot of toys for its 80s and 90s cartoon series that we just mentioned here. The toys would usually be limited to a few plush/soft toys and some small figures which came with Fast Food Happy/Kids Meals. But in matters of toys, I defer to Mark, the toy expert! :)

David Tennant has plenty of experience of doing audio stuff, particularly for British company Big Finish who have used him in various Doctor Who roles in their audio plays (including the Doctor himself).

The rest of the cast are completely unknown to me.

Thank you Wilycub, I only just noticed this comment LOL.
As far as I know the only Disney movies/TV shows that had toylines with actual action figures was Gargoyles, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Aladdin, The Lion King, Treasure Planet, Mulan and possibly Pocahontas.
I owned two of the Talespin action figures, Baloo and Don Carnage, and they were very nice. I wish I still had them and collected the line. The line only lasted one series and there was only several figures made and two vehicles.

Here are some of the Darkwing Duck figures. Like Talespin they were also made by Playmates and look very nice. http://www.virtualtoychest.com/d/darkwingduck/darkwingduck.html
I wish Playmates had made proper Gummi Bears and Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers action figures in the 80's and early 90's. If they had been on the shelves in the 80's and 90's I know for a fact I would have been picking them over some of the more action orientated cartoon characters.
The reason I never got more of the Talespin toys was that I only ever seen them in one shop, a Toymasters in town. None of the other shops here seemed to have them. I didn't even know there was Darkwing Duck toys until I seen them in an action figure book in late 2002.
A company called Herocross is making articulated die cast Disney characters. Most notably Huey, Dewey, Louie and Donald Duck so there will technically be some Duck Tales figures available soon.

Thanks for the info and for the links, Mark! :thumbsup

Those toys looks great, especially the "TaleSpin" ones. They are incredibly close in likeness to the cartoon characters. Just loved the Baloo figure! Wish I had him. :)

I don't know why back in the old days, Disney wasn't too much into action figures/articulated figures. They did make a lot of merchandise base on their classic cartoon characters but it was mostly plush toys, and other non-movable statue-type figures which would be part of something like a coin bank or alarm clock or shampoo bottle etc. They rarely made figures like the Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin ones that you linked to.

An odd thing about the Baloo figure is that he is wearing the flight jacket he is seen wearing in the Talespin logo design instead of the standard shirt he wears in every episode. Playmates did a really great job capturing the cartoon likeness. Something they would do again in their World of Springfield The Simpsons toyline.

Toy merchandising is a tricky business. It all comes down to the unpredictable factor on if children will like the cartoon and want toys and vice versa.
Perhaps Disney in the 80's were just more concerned with making good animation with great characters and stories instead of quick merchandise cash ins. I know there was some large plush Gummi Bears made that sell now for quite a hefty price but I never seen them in the shops here. I don't know if Rescue Rangers even got plush toys.
Oddly enough the first episode (or one of the first) I saw of Rescue Rangers was ''A Lad in a Lamp'' and it has a scene were there is load of Rescue Rangers toys and various other merchandise. I remember when I seen that episode I really wanted RR toys. :D
It is quite mindboggling though some of the marketing decisions certain toy companies have made in regards to what TV show/films they want to make toys for.
A really interesting example would be Mego passing on the chance to make 'Thundarr the Barbarian' toys...yet they made action figures based on 'The Love Boat'. :confused Of course I don't have the viewing figure statistics in front of me, but I will hazard a guess and say that the amount of kids watching Thundarr....and wanting toys from that cartoon greatly out numbered the amount of children wanting Love Boat action figures. I suppose it's no surprise Mego went bankrupt not long after this. They were still trying to financially recover after passing on the chance of making Star Wars figures. In 2003 Toynami made some beautiful cartoon accurate toys of Thundarr.
Another fine example of a popular cartoon not getting toys made until many years later but still being really popular is Scooby-Doo. Since around 2000 Scooby-Doo has started having actual action figures made by Equity Marketing and Character Options now own the moulds and continue to make and release the toys to this day.

Quite ironic isn't it Wilycub, toys based on a 30+ year old cartoon being available at retail and all uniquely sculpted at a cheap price for kids and adult collectors to enjoy. ;)
Maybe we should contact Character Options about making Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, and Dundeons & Dragons figures. :D I know LJN made D&D figures but, in one of the most confusing decisions of toy making, they didn't make action figures of the main heroes and villains from the cartoon.

Playmates excel at making great action figures. Even if some of their toys don't capture the cartoon likeness 100% (like the original TMNT line), the figures are still very beautiful and have an almost irresistible charm. :)

You are right about the whole toy merchandise business. We can never know for sure why a certain decision was made, but only hazard guesses. But as you said, I think in the 80s, Disney wasn't really making TV shows to sell merchandise. They were just focused on making good animated shows which could then be syndicated.

The Rescue Rangers definitely had some plush toys made. Don't know exactly how many of the characters were made, but Chip and Dale were for sure

Are those your Chip and Dale? They look awesome. I will have to look out for them. I hope they made Gadget and Monterey Jack.

The original Playmates Turtles were beautiful and very fun to play with and collect. The first waves definitely weren't super cartoon accurate but as the line went on they definitely became a lot more cartoon accurate. Especially the figures of April, Irma, Vern and Burne.

I had to edit my post as I completely forgot about Gargoyles. Those were pure action orientated toys made by Kenner. They were pretty good. I only ever owned the bad guy Xanatos. I actually just got the figure of him as I thought it looked pretty cool. At the time I didn't know what the Gargoyles cartoon was or that they were the heroes and Xanatos the villain.

Thanks for sharing this adssse! :)

I have mixed feelings about this. Obviously I'm going to compare it with the original and obviously I'm going to prefer the original since I'm of the "older" generation. (can't believe I am calling myself old!) :cry But if I try to look at it on its own merits based solely on the trailer -

What I liked:
:thumbsup
Scrooge's voice. A little different form the original but still reminds you of it and doesn't stray away too much from it.
:thumbsup The new take on the music
:thumbsup The clips of the adventures - look exciting!

What I didn't like:
:thumbsdown Voices of the three nephews. They sound like teenagers, more suitable for a show like "Quack Pack"
:thumbsdown The overly annoying Webby! Sounds like Kathy Griffin on a caffeine high!
:thumbsdown The art style. Naturally, this is the style of 2D animation that Disney XD employs these days and it would be silly of me to expect it to be more like the original. The angular designs make it easy to animate in their Flash-like software. While Donald and Scrooge don't look that bad to me, the nephews squarish heads are a bit weird!

And why does Launchpad sound like Ty Burrell?? ;)

I'm pretty much in agreement with you on this Wilycub! I'm reminded of the Thundercats remake, and I remember not caring for the animation in the trailer of that.

I'm not quite sure about the new take on the theme song though. Possibly because the original was SO amazing, it's impossible to top.

Agreed on the kids being a bit annoying - but if you watch the opening 5-parter of the original, Huey, Dewey and Louie were not the best behaved youngsters in the world at first, and some of that was definitely gratuitous. At the same time though, it wasn't completely annoying, it managed to work.

I'm not quite sure either way on Scrooge's voice, although I'm willing to trust David Tennant, he'll probably get into the swing of things as the show progresses.
Looks also like Donald Duck might have more of a part in this version. You could count the episodes of the original he appeared in on your fingers.

This brings me to mind my favourite piece of Disney trivia. Donald Duck's voice will be provided as always by Tony Anselmo, who voiced the character in the original DuckTales, and indeed everything for the last 30yrs or so - he trained for about 3yrs under Clarence Nash, the man who did the voice originally (including all foreign language dubs), to make sure he got the voice just right. I'd say he succeeded. I love the lengths they went to to preserve the integrity of that one voice, and hope that Anselmo trains his successor to a similar standard when the time comes.

As for the show as a whole, well, I'll watch it when it comes out. I'll try not to be too judgemental too quickly.

I guess I am a bit in the minority that I somewhat like the new animation. Now, dont get me wrong I much prefer the original animation (man I miss the good ole days of well done animation) I am open to the new style. I do like the fact that Donald seems to play a larger role as well. I really dont care for the new Webby so far. She was such a sweet character in the original, I hope I am wrong on my initial impression. Overall I am not a fan of the voice cast so far, but am actually really looking forward to this remake. Hopefully they have some top notch writers that are up for the challenge.
