Dr_Slump Might Be in Trouble

This is just for the team.

Dr_Slump sent me a PM saying he got a call from Bandai UK asking if he had recorded video of the booth. He answered yes, but that it was all deleted soon afterwards.

He's now afraid that Bandai might do something to him, which is why he's been low key since he posted the images.

I don't get it. I posted this on the He-Man.org forums as well replying to a comment someone made about sites having sour grapes over the leaked photos, yet still linking to the photos...like Toy News International.

It's just moronic to think this information would stay private when the event it was being shown in was a public event.

Just so dumb. Sorry I'm just irked.

They're ruining my excitement :(

To be honest Bandai handling of this has been **** poor to say the least. Their reps should have known better and the images should have been supplied officially via press release. If they wanted to save the reveal for the US New York Toyfair, then they should not have launched the brand at London Toy Fair.

Do you think it's worth contacting Bandai ourselves and asking them if they would like us to cut all the links to the images? I'd prefer to comply in any way with Bandai as I'd sooner be helping rather than hindering them.

We can explain that we were unsure of whether or not to keep the image links up or not.

Manny did he say what they said to him? Surely they gave him some indication on their feelings and if they would take any action? Surely he ask them that! I'm assuming they got his number from the registration for attending Toy Fair?

Its too late already...the damage has been done and this has spread like wildfire and it cannot be contained or controlled. I wouldnt offer to take anything down unless they specifically asked us to do it and so far no request so we're in the clear.

Hell even MTV has posted the news.

Oh I'm not worried about Bandai or WB coming down on us for all of this Manny....I was more thinking toward scoring some points with them by offering to comply with any action they would like in regard to the images.

Saying that though, I'm not sure it would make much different though and we still likely won't get press releases like other sites do! Yeah maybe best to leave things as is for now....

He didn't give me details, just that a lady from Bandai (PR) called him on his cell asking if he had video recordings of the booth. He told me that they got his information because he had to sign a guestbook with his information on it and that's how they contacted him. He said the lady was polite and didn't seem demanding, so I think he's just trying to be cautious so that he doesn't get into any trouble.

I don't think he should have admitted that he took the video. Bad move. These toy companies, considering they get awful ****y about leaks, might have an agenda to find out if he's responsible for it and whether they got leaked. Hence the niceness.

Then again, it's bad PR for Bandai if they take any action. I'm assuming they just don't want anymore leaks - so it'll be a "don't do that again" kinda deal. I'd just relax him, though, as he's a good poster and that's one hell of an exclusive.

Chris here...

My own instinct is that we should leave the picture links up unless specifically asked to take them down - WB / Bandai have obviously decided to run with it because of issuing the official press release (with the new image) on the same day as these leaked images. :)

I agree with Neil that the handling from Bandai has been poor, if they want these images kept out of the public domain they then need to make the Toy Fair only open to dealers or people who work within the toy industry. If you make it open to members of the general public, to be honest it's the height of naivety to expect nothing to happen...

I suspect why Bandai wanted to speak to him is because they will have taken a note of his details and are likely to ban him from attending future shows - if they bring a lawsuit against him (not sure what charge they could level?) then they're ****ing crazy because the negative backlash that will generate from fans will really harm their brand! :(

Take care... :)

I think their decision is based on the fact that this stuff spread like wildfire through the online community (even trending on Twitter! ) I don't think WB knew that ThunderCats still carried so much interest among adult fans. I think they were genuinely surprised at how much positive publicity they got out of it! :) (well that's my take on it anyway)

Bandai do not control Toyfair. It's an event hosted by the industry and other companies would have been there as well. I don't think 'no pics' is a general rule either. Depends on the booth/company/display item. I think the no pics, was simply to keep it a BIG reveal for New York as that's where the big buyers will be. I doubt there will be any 'no pics' placards there. It was simply done to keep the reveals 'NEW' for NYTF. But the fault lies with Bandai. They really should have had some stuff for London and then additional stuff for NY. As well as press releases to coincide with both events and their reveals. I think what irks them is that a fan did a better PR job than they did! :D

I think your right. I think it's to ensure that the matter is contained and that they can learn from their mistakes. They can't really sue him as he never signed anything to agree to non disclosure. I'm also not sure they can ban him either, since Bandai don't exactly OWN London Toyfair and are merely exhibitors at the event ;)
