Guys, I had a chance to talk to David Chrichton by phone the other day we chatted for ages about ThunderCats and his book. I must say I was completely wowed by the amount of effort that has gone into his book. I think I can safely say this will be a landmark publication for ThunderCats fans and will be packed with information we've never come across.

Would you believe that David has managed to contact every writer who worked on the show? Even the really obscure ones with very common names that I would never have dreamed of trying to find contact info for. He's basically interviewed 80 or more people involved with the show and LJN!

David asked how I thought the site might be able to help promote the book. I suggested that we'd of course like to have the publisher pay for some advertising space and that we'd promote the book gladly even if they didn't. I'll let you know what comes of the first idea.

I also asked him if he would give us the content he came across that doesn't get published in the book, which he has agreed to do! The book is going to have only a few pages of photographs and he has hundreds of pics collected from staff of LJN, Rankin Bass, Pacific animation etc. Anything that his publisher doesn't print and consider part of his contract will be available to us and there is a bunch of reference materials that he's collected including what is perhaps the first ever etchings of the ThunderCats.

Amazing stuff.

I'll keep working with David and will let you know how things go. We also have up until the end of the year to include anything that we personally would like to have go into the book. However, the editing process is likely to be pretty strict and a lot of things won't be included.

Chris here...

Hey Mark, once again this is amazing on both counts - you are a legend, sir!

I personally think this site would do extremely well by promoting David's book even without a financial incentive, as if he's prepared to let us have some of this exclusive info for display on this site that's got to be worth its weight in gold! :)

Perhaps he'd be willing to let us have access to some of the other writers' contact info (or ask the other writers if they'd be willing to be interviewed by Nick or myself) with regards to getting audio interviews - the reason I say audio interviews is because those would be different in presentation to the text-based interviews likely to feature in David's book, and would also fit in better with the types of Cartoon creator interviews we already have featured here on the site... :)

As with the Prototypes, I'm more than happy to flex my web designer's muscles and help get this stuff added to the new site once it launches! :)

Take care... :)

Yes, he's great. I helped him with some bits and pieces on the LJN toys. I've seen the original sketch of the Mad Bubbler :D

It's amazing how much he has researched for the book. The end product will be amazing!

As for advertising...a link to Amazon via our affiliate link will hopefull get us some revenue. Feel free to try, but I doubt the publisher will bite on paying to advertise.

I agree with Neil on the Amazon link. If we place an affiliate link with some sort of picture of the book that should get some sort of revenue going. Just getting the exclusive content is enough to give some sort of advertising.

Perhaps we can work something out to get discounted copies, sort of like what Hard Hero is doing for us.

Holy thread revival, Batman! :)

Just to let you guys know that Dave contacted all of us about the book earlier today and I've told him that we will happily give it a shout-out on our front page. I've also asked him if it will be available from Amazon - I agree with you guys, it would be good to place an affiliate link to the book on our front page! :)

I've also gently jogged his memory regarding the conversation that Mark had with him (referenced in the top post of this thread) - it would certainly be a big feather in this site's cap if we were able to access some of the info and images that never made it into the book! :)

I'll keep you guys posted on how this all goes! :)

Take care... :)
