He pretty much put that on Devianart a few weeks ago, so nothing new here.

I would like to ask Mr Norton just how exactly 'Chima sealed the deal'.
I am no fan of Chima by any means, but to blame an unrelated show and toy line for causing the cancelation of the NS is pathetic.

well from what i got from Dan's comment, is that since there's a new series based on a similar concept to the thundercats, there probably isn't a point in continuing the NS thundercats. i also think that unlike the NS thundercats, this Chima series has a specific demographic which is supported by the Lego based animation. it's obvious this new series was created specifically for merchandising.

The ''maybe, someday...'' part hurts even more

And here I was still being optimistic. Unfortunate, I was honestly hoping CN would renew it, but I guess they made good on their reputation :(.

I don't take this as a good sign for future of the Cats, I mean already it took the series nearly 2 decades to be remade despite the OS' popularity. Now this NS being cancelled so prematurely, I mean would anyone invest in it any time soon? Unlikely, but I hope so although seeing as how its all business, I don't even want to think about it. Still it was good while it lasted.

TMNT remains to be the only other toon now that's worth watching (for me) and thankfully Nick is playing smart.

I'm curious to see why Chima replaced the Cats, would give it a watch just for sake of curiosity.

Regardless of the similar concept though it seems wrong naming one specific shows for the NS ThunderCats fate. The fate of the show was in question long before anyone had even heard of Chima.

I agree 100%, the new TMNT is excellent.

By all counts, i should upset by this news, but instead, i'm having mixed feelings about it.

On one hand: This means we'll never get any real closure on the search for the Stones (or what the last one did), how Mumm-Ra will be defeated or on what will become of Pumyra. It also means, we'll left guessing what happened next forever.

This show has fallen into the same ditch as-

Zevo-3

Wolverine and the X-men

The Spectacular Spider-man

Voltron Force

and

Symbionic Titan

- all of them were shows that ended their seasons with episodes that implied there was going to be another season but instead, ended without any real closure. Leaving us, the fans to just imagine what happens next.

However, on the other hand: this means, for all anyone knows, my fan-fiction ideas could work with the series continuity

not surprised ......all i really hope for now is a classics toy line.

I hate to see this site have to be now dead several months after this news. That's not something I look forward to. But yeah, this blows.

That would be Young Justice for me...but it's getting axed too. Thanks CN, thanks a lot.

I think the problem lies in both shows not necessarily appealing to their target audience. They feel like since they aren't getting the numbers they want from kids from about 6-12, then the show isn't successful. I am 99% sure this is the case for Young Justice because it continues to beat almost every show on CN minus Adventure Time (crap) and Regular Show (more crap) when it comes to overall ratings. With the NS, the failure of a toyline was most definitely a huge contribution to the show's demise, but I think some of the same things apply. What really gets me is this: as a network, wouldn't you want to try to attract as many people as possible? I completely understand that kids will be more likely to buy the toys and merchandise (or their parents, rather), but I have barely seen any Regular Show toys in stores if they exist nor any T-Shirts for anyone under their teens. So why would the age ratings even matter unless you're just trying to boast?

My point is, there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason behind ridding yourself of shows that attract people beyond a target age group because the overall goal is to make more money. More ratings=more money. Show gets good ratings=you make more money, right? It seems fairly simple. I'm not saying CN should start playing shows similar to South Park to have a wider audience, but a show that doesn't confine itself to toddlers and pre-teens is not a death sentence for your network. If anything, it should be a blessing to have a show that can bring in more viewers that could potentially find interest in another one of your shows. So for a show that you barely advertise/promote to get decent ratings, never mind them being from a different target group, is bad?

Now, I'm not sure this is the reason ThunderCats is gone, and like I said before the toyline definitely was a factor. However, imagine if My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic only based its ratings off its target age group. While it wouldn't necessarily be horrific enough to cancel it, it would be a dramatic difference. In fact, the reason that show is as successful as it has become is mostly due to the fact that it isn't entertaining to just little girls alone. This seems to be the only reason other than just being brain-dead as to why they cancel so many shows, especially how they're getting rid of the DC Nation shows. I'm getting off-topic, but I think those may just not be coming back this year because they're going to switch between airing new episodes of the two new shows and having new YJ/GL episodes.

I figured this series was dead in the water ever since they gave us that hiatus crap back in the summer with no explanation. Won't even give us a direct to dvd release to tie everything up. Sad indeed.
#13
Hammy I agree with you many of those points.

It would be nice if cartoon network had the balls to say a show is cancelled instead of this hiatus crap. I kinda figured it was dead awhile back but I really really really wanted it to at least get the last 26 episodes.

So many good shows have ended or are ending soon
Thundercats
Young Justice
Green Lantern

wow... just wow. I was hoping Toonami was going to give this series another chance... Just four more weeks before it ends. Now whats going to happen with the lair? The fan comic is i guess dead and the NS series is canceled. I think we pretty much talked everything about the series to death since the hiatus started, I could be wrong. The only activity that really goes on here is the market place. I really don't want to leave the Lair but i don't know what to really do here. Maybe post the funny art that i made. I have had lots of fun on here and it was one of my fav forums and i met really cool people.
Hopefully this isn't the end for me on this forums. Hopefully this will lighten up the mood.

I guess all we can do now is petition WB to allow a company (Mattel, Playmates, Hasbro, Diamond Select) to make Classics figures based on the Original Series and maybe some on the New Series designs.

Well Chima is the right show to continue. This show was not was CN was looking for but Chiam is. A kids show which work around the toys. New TC was great but.. Yes it's been said to many times.

They (Cartoon Network) seem unusually hell-bent on getting a show like that to work. And quite frankly, kids just don't want toys anymore. It is rather sad when I see a 3-year-old walk around with an iPhone instead of an action figure/doll/etc. Then again, I wasn't into toys, but it's still the truth. And if anything, Avatar proves that you can have a highly-popular cartoon with almost no merchandise. In my opinion, their focus on toys became a detriment to the NS.

I agree Hammy it is sad kids today are so into computers/gadgets. My cousins are constantly stuck on those iPad/tablet computers.
It has all been said before, but it was the wrong type of show to try and primarily sell toys.

It may be an eternity before another "ThunderCats" reboot comes out.

Lets hope when a reboot/movie does come out everyone is on the same page regarding what their intention is and who the target audience is.
