TMNT remains to be the only other toon now that's worth watching (for me) and thankfully Nick is playing smart.
That would be Young Justice for me...but it's getting axed too. Thanks CN, thanks a lot.
I think the problem lies in both shows not necessarily appealing to their target audience. They feel like since they aren't getting the numbers they want from kids from about 6-12, then the show isn't successful. I am 99% sure this is the case for Young Justice because it continues to beat almost every show on CN minus Adventure Time (crap) and Regular Show (more crap) when it comes to overall ratings. With the NS, the failure of a toyline was most definitely a huge contribution to the show's demise, but I think some of the same things apply. What really gets me is this: as a network, wouldn't you want to try to attract as many people as possible? I completely understand that kids will be more likely to buy the toys and merchandise (or their parents, rather), but I have barely seen any Regular Show toys in stores if they exist nor any T-Shirts for anyone under their teens. So why would the age ratings even matter unless you're just trying to boast?
My point is, there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason behind ridding yourself of shows that attract people beyond a target age group because the overall goal is to make more money. More ratings=more money. Show gets good ratings=you make more money, right? It seems fairly simple. I'm not saying CN should start playing shows similar to South Park to have a wider audience, but a show that doesn't confine itself to toddlers and pre-teens is not a death sentence for your network. If anything, it should be a blessing to have a show that can bring in more viewers that could potentially find interest in another one of your shows. So for a show that you barely advertise/promote to get decent ratings, never mind them being from a different target group, is bad?
Now, I'm not sure this is the reason ThunderCats is gone, and like I said before the toyline definitely was a factor. However, imagine if My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic only based its ratings off its target age group. While it wouldn't necessarily be horrific enough to cancel it, it would be a dramatic difference. In fact, the reason that show is as successful as it has become is mostly due to the fact that it
isn't entertaining to just little girls alone. This seems to be the only reason other than just being brain-dead as to why they cancel so many shows, especially how they're getting rid of the DC Nation shows. I'm getting off-topic, but I think those may just not be coming back this year because they're going to switch between airing new episodes of the two new shows and having new YJ/GL episodes.
