Not sure how this escaped our attention over the summer, but Larnell Stovall, a director on HBO's Titans, has brought some major talent to bear on a new ThunderCats fan project that focuses on Panthro:

I hesitate to even call this a fan film, it's so professionally done. The vibe is definitely super dark, and the take on the story is a new one—the ThunderCats seem to have crashed on Earth in separate ships and are scattered, plus humanity is still around causing trouble and being generally terrible. But it definitely looks amazing, and it's refreshing to see a new take like this, however violent.
Whether it really is the first chapter of a web series or a pitch for a feature in disguise, who knows? But to me, the existence of this plus the Adam Wingard "announcement" plus Mike Booth's ThunderCats Justice film is all very heartening—a sign that talented fans in the industry are interested in continuing the franchise. The more projects like this that get buzz (however rough or half-baked they are), the more likely something real may eventually rise to the top with a deserving budget. It also just restores my faith in the resilience of our not-so-little fandom.
