Just wonderng if there's any of you who download via torrents. What's your favorite torrent client and favorite tracker? (Keep any torrent discussion within this thread)

Heh.. I've been know to download a torrent or two... or thousand.

Azureus is good BT client. I personally use a modified version called BitTyrant. It a good tracker if you have a fairly solid connection, as it screens out the slower peers. Some sites have tried to block the tracker (because it actively seeks out only the faster peers and leechers).. but there are ways around that.

As for site. Of the top of my head...
BTJunkie.org PirateBay.org TorrentReactor.net

There are alot more, but I can't get to them at the moment... fav'ed on another PC.
Just remember that BT can devour your bandwidth if you let it.. so take care to find a nice upload/download balance.

Good Luck and have fun

If you can get into the private trackers you'd have such an easier time downloading. Right now i think http://www.torrent-damage.net"" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">torrent-damage has open registrations which is rare. They have some excellent new content as well as some older stuff and their DL speeds are superb, plus its an excellent community that would much rather seed than do hit and runs. Also Demonoid is very good as they have an extensive library of torrents and they keep good seeder/leecher ratios.

Hey Manny, I used to be a frequent torrent user, but not anymore. Now my downloads are all using rapidshare links. It's much faster! Torrents sometimes are irritating because there aren't any seeders!

But I used Azureus and my favourite sites were Pirate's Bay and Mininova! :)

A friend just helped me into the torrent world the other day! He asked "What do you want to download?"

"Thundercat episodes" I replied! Got 127 of them!

My friends recommended utorrent over Azureus, which was what I was using. However after testing utorrent most I saw a definite increase in download speed even though "all other things" remained unchanged.

I use bit tornado as I really don't know any good places. Do the places you guys listed have links?

Don't you guys get throttled when you use torrents? My friend's internet service provider has been throttling his bandwidth and there are times where he cannot connect to the internet at all.

Do you guys just download and not upload? Because I think it's the uploading portion that they detect...and then the downloading gets affected outside of the actual torrent.

Whenever I am downloading a Torrent I always set the upload limit to 30kb/s. If not it will kill your bandwidth.

I use uTorrent, and Mininova/Piratebay are my fav sites.

I do DL and UL. You have to set limits when you upload, i set it at around 35. I havent been throttled, I dont think I have. My DL is kept at a minimum, basically the occasional new CD or PPV's my usage is really kept at a minimum. Dont want to raise too much suspicion

I hope this isn't off topic.

In a past life I was 100% a torrent fan. Anything I wanted I saw to it that I got. And fast! I remember queuing up Spiderman 2 before heading off to work. When I got home the data light on my modem was blinking in a strange way. I called my ISP (Cox Communications) and they referred me to the 'Security Department' via a 1-800 number. I proceeded to call this department and after a few questions to validate and verify my identity the fella on the other side said that the copyright holder for Spiderman 2 has notified them that I was seeding content that was protected. He said that they checked to see if I was and they determined that I was (because, in fact, I was). He said that they cited me for a DMCA violation and if I were to get two more they would cancel my account.

I consider myself lucky that it wasn't the RIAA because I am confident that they would have persued me for damages. So the lesson for me was that torrents are unsafe ways to obtain materials that may be copyright protected. I went back to my roots and from then on have stayed primarily with Usenet (news groups) to obtain pretty much everything now. With the advent of parity volumes and NZB indexes usenet is a much different landscape than of 15 years ago.

As a rule I don't torrent, as I want to be able to support further work by artists and developers. The only time I will torrent is when either A) I don't think the work is worth paying any money for or B) If I have no recourse and can't get it any other way.

I did this once when I downloaded/streamed The Human Centipede. As morbidly curious as I was to see it, I would not in good conscience pay money for it. The movie was difficult enough to sit through as it was. But at least I could sleep at night knowing I hadn't paid the filmmakers and distributors any money (Not that it did any good. It got a sequel anyway). :P

I was also tempted to torrent Game of Thrones, since I don't have HBO. But since I now work for a cable company, and they're dangling that free cable in front of me and all that comes with it, I figured I'd hold out. Also now that the first season is over with, I figure I might as well wait until it comes out on Blu-Ray, which should be pretty soon from what I've been hearing.
