What is the blue lightning from the ancient spirits of evil? A good example is Pumm-ra, where mumm-ra mocks a captured cheetara for not being so quick, then next scene shows the ancient spirits of evil lightning and its shown before when mumm-ra says "while mumm-ra gathers all of his strength to leave this pyramid in a new form that he has never tried before BEHOLD!" Then the blue lightning appears in his transformation chant into mumm-ra the ever living form. Another example is The Evil Harp of Charr-Ninn when mumm-ra transforms into ever living to meet Charr-Ninn. This blue lightning lessens in Season 3 and 4 when the ancients speak and order mumm-ra.

I hate to have to say it, but I think you're too late to learn the answers to the myriad questions you've been posting. If there was any special significance to the variations in animation, colors of this or that, and so on, chances are the late Leonard Starr was the person to ask. An alternative might be to track down some of the overseas animators who worked on the show, and ask such questions. Maybe the scripts called for some unique presentations, but that seems less likely. I don't mean to burst your bubble with this, either, but I suspect that many of the subtleties you've noticed were just different methods being tried out, or at best an attempt to provide some interesting variation throughout the series. Maybe a certain color of lightning is seen in a particular culture (either that of the writers or the animators) as hinting toward a certain emotion or theme, but one would have to study the cultures involved to really know for certain. As the Freudian saying goes, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Just to clarify my point, I'll quote from my ongoing Masters of the Universe role-playing game adaptation: "As was once suggested by the writer of the first wave of mini-comics, the stories are best taken at face value, for any hints of a particular back-story were merely clever wording designed to give the illusion of mystery and depth."
