The development arc of the Kinetiquettes Lion-O ran in public through ThunderCats.org coverage. The first teaser in April 2015 was a model sheet that blended classic and 2011 cues, with a 2011-style shoulder plate. After the studio gauged fan reaction, the default look was reset to the classic 1985 design, with the modern interpretation kept as an optional format.
By mid-2015 the team shared concept art placing Lion-O inside Mumm-Ra’s crypt opposite the spirit pool, and by July 2015 a 3D sculpt render of the work-in-progress pose. Lion-O ultimately anchored the finished Lion-O vs Mumm-Ra diorama rather than shipping as a separate single release, but the development sculpts document how the piece took shape.
